Dont know about the pncconf stuff but the I/O pins (the 32 inputs and 16 outputs that comprise the field I/O) require the field power to be present at startup or the HAL pins wont be there

The analog out / drive enables / encoders only need the 5V (from 5I25 or external connection)

Ok I have found and error.
PNCconf is misspelling the analog output enable pin.
In your HAL file look at line 63.
says something like
net x-enable hm2_5i25.0.7i77.0.1.analogout0

change it to :
net x-enable hm2_5i25.0.7i77.0.1.analogena

then try the config again .... please

Thank you both PCW and cmorley for your patience and input.

I changed the line in the HAL file and applied power to the field power input and LinuxCNC starts up without errors. Using HAL meter I am now able to track encoder counts on that axis. In case you're still interested I'm attaching the ini and hal files but I'm not sure I used an acceptable attachment format for this forum so we'll see if they go through.

Progress! I'm going out of town tomorrow but hopefully I'll make a bunch more progress next week. I'll invariably have more questions so I hope you'll still be available at that point. Thanks again.

I am glad we got some positive progress!

Glad you've stuck with it - now i can fix those bugs.
at some point I would like to find out what the errors were when you did an openloop test....

I will get you details of the errors from the open loop test when I get back.

I pushed some fixes to 2.5 buildbot so the enable pin is spelled right.

I'm back and I went ahead and tried the open loop test again immediately as soon as I got back here. With 12V field power applied to the 7i77, I got no errors in the open loop test dialog. However, I got no voltage out of any of the pwm outputs when I pressed the plus/minus jog buttons. I fooled around with some other things and permanently wired the field power to 24VDC. I ran PNCConf again and found that I get the error again when I press the axis enable button. Attached is a screen cap of that error. I then updated LinuxCNC to get your new updates but I found that I still get the same error when I press the axis enable button in the open loop test dialog. I'm not sure what changed that caused me to get the error. I get a "following error" when I try to use the jog button in axis.

thank you for the report.
If you run PNCconf from a terminal it will give more specific messages to why this happens.

probably a HAL name spelled wrong :(

two periods on the analogena pin?.. Perhaps not. I don't know what's screwed up here.
