XHC-HB04 Pendant, Solving Jerky Movement was created by Sparky961
I really hesitated to ask the question because it seems like something I should have been able to find out by doing a few searches. Alas, I haven't found anything that has worked so here goes...
Using an XHC-HB04 USB MPG Pendant, I get "jerky" (not smooth) movement instead of traveling at a velocity proportional to the speed I spin the knob. There is enough weight and acceleration to make this vibrate nicely through the floor...
I thought for sure I could change 'jogmode=normal' to 'jogmode=vnormal' or 'jogmode=plus-minus' (though I'm not sure what the latter is supposed to do). However, when I do so there's no apparent change.
Is there a parameter I can look at in HAL to confirm what mode it's in? Is there something else special needed, like a restart or ... ?

I found this thread and am reading through it at the moment. Apparently I have better search terms today...

On a related note, in the above referenced thread I learned that it's possible to redirect HAL output to a file. I thought this would be very handy for troubleshooting and learning about a previously-configured system.
But this gives an error. LinuxCNC version 2.6.2 on this machine.
$ halcmd show > hal_info.txt

Here's a zip file of the entire machine config folder in case it answers any questions. It's a mess I've inherited that I'm trying to improve upon.

Sorry for the one-man conversation here, but it's helping me to make some progress on my own.
There's a lot of good info to be had from the thread I linked above. Lots of extra stuff to ignore though too.
It seems I might need to add an ILOWPASS component, but need to read up on how and what it actually does.

Good information here as well:
www.panix.com/~dgarrett/stuff/xhc-hb04/xhc-hb04.txt
Ack... but doesn't seem like it's as straight-forward as I'd have preferred (like just changing one configuration setting)

You need to tell halcmd what to show
like:
halcmd show pin
halcmd show param hm2*
halcmd show all
man halcmd

Ok, thanks. The reference here must have been a typo then.

Did you manage to get any closer to smooth operation?

Unfortunately, no. It took lower priority to other things but I'd love an easy fix.
