Do you have a LinuxCNC entry in your main menu?

I believe so. i have my machine all set up, configured, and calibrated except for the floating head. when i fist tried to get plasmac it suggested i make sure everything as set up and ready. so i did everything else first.

Hey, well i was being dumb for a while there. when i tried to follow the guide for plasmac i typed this into the terminal

$ python /usr/share/doc/linuxcnc/examples/sample-configs/by_machine/plasmac/configurator.py

which i accidentally included the extra $

once i did this: python /usr/share/doc/linuxcnc/examples/sample-configs/by_machine/plasmac/configurator.py

i get the menu for plasmac. so i guess i already have it

Glad you sorted it, in the doc that is supposed to represent the terminal prompt.
Maybe there should be a note in there for newcomers.
