Thank you for this answer
so for a NEW system it is TIME to go MINT

The short version is : It just works!
The long version : it is very stable, polished to perfection, and you can intentionaly break anything and still be able to fix it easily!
I also like Debian and use it quite offten, especially on big machines.

Thank you for the posted files.
Maybe you have such a version ISO:
Mint 19.2 with Linuxcnc 2.7.(15) for the RTAI ?
(so that old configurations work without editing)

Sorry but i do not.
You can try removing 2.8 and linuxcnc-dev and installing 2.7 from buildbot, that might work altbough might need some dependencies also as i recal some of them got removed from 2.8.

How come when I suggested this and actually did this 12 months ago it was a BAD THING ?

If i am not mistaken, i have downloaded and tested your version, but it would end up at the BusyBox. Unfortunately i had no time to find out why.

I can’t answer that one, I know I tested it in Virtualbox and real hardware before throwing it into the wild.
Unfortunately I deleted all the copies on my google drive and locally.

Hi gentlemen,

Previously we have been trying to install Linuxmint with LinuxCNC but couldn't get it to work, which was a bit frustrating. We are building a plasma cutter for our workshop and we would love to use PlasmaC on it, that would be a great improvement on the old LinuxCNC driven machine we have now. (Mind you, we have used that old setup for 10 years without any major glitches !)

Now I have managed to create a USB stick with this installation and it works and looks great ! But I have a question : at startup from the USB stick it says "Install Linux Mint with LinuxCNC" or something, and when I click that the computer seems to start up and run from the USB stick, and when I shut down the computer to check if the new setup is installed it starts an older version of Linux Mint (which I installed last week).

How can I get the USB stick installation to install on the hard drive of the computer ? We are not Linux computer wizards, but now we have a bootable USB stick with everything we need and just want to install it on the hard drive. Can any of you help us with that, it will be much appreciated !

Cheers, Peter and Tim

hmmm it would appear the installer (ubiquity-frontend-gtk) hasn't been included,
apart from that everything else appears ok.

I have looked for "ubiquity" to install but that didn't work for me. Any ideas and/or suggestions are welcome !
