The .mesact.conf file is created when you build the configuration and is used to setup the tool when you load the ini. Not sure exactly how I will merge old and new configurations yet but that must be addressed.

Hmm but I saw it as a big advantage that your tool can open a config without need for additional files.

If you want to try out the ini2 branch I "think" everything is working as it should and the ini file stores all the data needed for the configuration tool. And you can add more sections and key values and they will be preserved with the exception of AXIS_ and JOINTS section if you delete an axis that axis and joint is removed from the ini file.

Hello JT

I have just installed the latest version of your tool
0.7.2 from 9/19/2022
When I open it I get the following error message:

I have not installed linuxcnc ....

That error was fixed with Build Date 9/23/2022. Looks like I forgot to build a deb and push it. Get a fresh copy of the deb in a few minutes after I build and push.

It still appears with the version from 09/25 e538b0fe9d77512bf4ea0e5d9a5c0648e494d017 (at least under Ubuntu, see also my other post)

Greetings!
How to install MesaCT? According to the installation guide, it is not possible because those files no longer exist: gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/mesact/install.html
Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi JT & all,
I just found Mesact and it looks really promising; thank you for making it!

I have a 7i80HD-16 and want to configure it for a 7i52S. I have the bitfile (7i80hd_16_svst6_6_7i52s.bit), and the relevant pinfile I think is PIN_SVST6_6_7I52S_48.vhd.

When I choose that firmware from the drop down menu, I get the message 'No pin file found for 7i80hd_16_svst6_6_7i52s.bit' and 'No description file found for 7i80hd_16_svst6_6_7i52s.bit'.  I tried to get mesact to see the pinfile by following the naming convention you have in the 5i24 folder of mesact's github page; I renamed the PIN....vhd file to 7i80hd_16_svst6_6_7I52s.pin and copied to the /.local/lib/libmesact/7i80hd16/ directory.

The daughter card menus remain empty, and I can't continue with building a config until I've selected a daughtercard.

Is there a way of adding pinfile or description info so that mesact will see it?

Many thanks!
Andy

Had a bit more time, looked closer - the pinfile is the output of readhmid, is this correct? I've replaced the contents of my 7i80hd_16_svst6_6_7i52s.pin file with readhmid's output, and now mesact's pinfile window shows the config properly.

However I still get 'No description file found' for 7i80hd_16_svst6_6_7i52s.bit' and can't select a daughter card; the P1 and P2 menus aren't populated/are unresponsive. Axes & I/O tabs are also greyed out.
What's my next step?

Also, is there a way to save progress, even if currently the config won't build?

thanks,
Andy

Sorry, I've been off line for a while with no internet connection.

At this time it must be a valid config to build but it sounds like a good idea to be able to save the ini only if the config won't build.

The pin files and description files are in ~/.local/lib/libmesact/boards/name_of_board
