I'm not chasing better performance. I'm chasing a configuration that will work with modern hardware (no slots or parallel ports). I thought ethercat might be a means of getting there. I saw the above post and assumed that this hardware would do what I wanted.

stiickies?
I have a working config using 2 parallel ports. Can I start with that?
I am using closed loop steppers.
I undestand that I will have to add invert pins etc.
The reset pin has me confused. Is it to generate a particular pulse width?

I just watched your YouTube video on you high speed ohmic and it’s impressive.

I assume you mean this one

I had a job which I filled a 8' x 4' sheet with some flanges and small parts. I cut it in 3 sections on a 4' x 4' table and there were heaps of probing so over time I tweaked the probing routine heights etc. I was using my hypersensing which uses a THCAD for the ohmic sensing. it does not like Hypertherm machines on a water table but it would work for you by the look.

Part of the speed comes from the way it breaks contact on up travel because as soon as it senses a fall in voltage, probing finishes (before the contact is broken).
I've been sent a ohmic circuit from Proma Elextronika in Poland. Its a very nice piece of kit and have some very good reviews on it. This will by my water table solution.

HAL Oscilloscope application has no Chan Off button...

Category: LinuxCNC Documents

The documentation is outdated, try clicking on the colored channel buttons on the bottom of the screen to toggle channels on/off. Eg the red button with '1' on it.

Fixed in github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commit/e412...449b7450922240e9b9c1

QTDragon_hd won't display a larger file.

Category: Qtvcp

Hello, I have a machine with 32gb of RAM and an i5, QTdragon fails to visualize gcode files over 20-30mb. The RAM is not even loaded. What could be the problem and how to solve it? Instead of a program, a box within machine bounds is displayed.

Building a 3-axis plasma table with mesa 7i96s, THCad-2 and nema23 steppers

Category: Show Your Stuff

Sorry for the late message. Unfortunately I had to give the project less priority.
At the moment very busy with my full time work, my own company and graduating from my bachelor mechanical engineering next to a more than full-time job.

I am slowly designing further on the mechanical part during my breaks. The hardware will be a pc that runs on plasmac in combination with a mesa board and a thcad.

The drive will be a belt, I do not believe that this stretch is noticeable under the load of plasma cutting. Much cheaper and simpler in design than rack and pinion.

Dude please don't change the subject, it makes things hard. I check this thread regularly.

I think it is useful to change the title from
"Linuxcnc & the Rpasberry Pi"
to that

you need to write your hal by hand. check the stiickies and start with an example config.

The hal_parport driver creates the pins & such and also talks directly to the parallel port hardware. I'm not sure if want you do is possible. I would imagine it would require a very special real time driver. I would also guess you wouldn't get any extra performance over using a parallel port as the step & direction timings would be created by the Linuxcnc software.

SCATECH EV1616DN - Example config

I just got a SCATECH EV1616DN module with the view of using it instead of parports. I have the hal operating the module.
I used github.com/pklopping/linuxcnc-ethercat-b...asic_digital_outputs for reference.
I'm lost as to how to integrate this back into a linuxcnc hal file generated by stepconf.
I assumed that I could simply change the parport references to lcec but, for example' there are no -reset pins etc.
Can you point me at an example of a compete configuration using ethercat?
