Mesa 7i76e, step dir, homing with index signal.

Category: Basic Configuration

This can be done with custom firmware
and some kind of daughter card on one of
the 7I76Es parallel expansion connectors

If the signals are 5V a daughter card may
not be needed but some protection from voltage
spikes like  220 ohm series resistors on the inputs
is advisable.

Another possibility is for me to add a software index pin for the stepgen/encoder
in LinuxCNC's driver so you could connect say a 7I76E field I/O pin to the software
index pin in hal.

This function could be built from hal components but it's a bit complex.

Remora - Rpi Software Stepping Using External Microcontroller via SPI

Category: Computers and Hardware

scotta thank you so much!

the challenges I face that are left are:

1) homing -> I tried wiring to GND and 3.3v but joint.0.home (maybe it's called different) is never TRUE, I tried using halcmd show pin for that while linuxcnc was running and also live testing the home axis.
[code]27  bit   OUT         FALSE  remora.input.00 ==> X-home
27  bit   OUT         FALSE  remora.input.01 ==> Y-home
27  bit   OUT         FALSE  remora.input.02 ==> Z-home
27  bit   OUT         FALSE  remora.input.03 ==> A-home

[code]I think it's weird that all my inputs are listed as OUT....

2) maybe related maybe unrelated: my A axis (joint3) is continuing to have follow joint problems. I thought maybe the motor or the driver went bad, but I swapped both. I tried several stepgen_maxaccel settings and fooled around with other settings as well.

Of course I appreciate the help so far and yes it's close to working, I was already very happy to see my XYZ axes moving!!!! :)

dragon.var writing variables QtDragon

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hi,  I am trying to read and to write variables in dragon.var.  Purpose is to know the on/of status of a laser and a spindle (on or off).  I can read the values through MDI with a DEBUG message. I can also write through the MDI. So the 2 variables (#5381 & #5382) that I want to read and write are accessible.  However, I cannor achieve to set the values during initialisation of QtDragon. I tried to do this through a subroutine that is called in the INI file (STARTUP_GCODE = o<init_variables> call, but it doesn't work.  Any ideas how to solve this?

Error: undefined symbol: hm2_pktuart_setup_rx - while lading custom modbus.so

Category: Driver Boards

locate pktuart

should find it but if you have re installed recently the
locate database has probably not been updated
(its done periodically, usually scheduled late at night)

You can manually update the locate database with:

sudo updatedb

(this will take a while since is has to search the entire directory system)

THC with Beckhoff EL5101 and THCAD2 => encoder signal loss

Category: Plasmac

Is this possibly a EL5101 bug or latency /communication issue?

Is the dropout always 10 ms? If so that more suggests a bug  or
communication/driver problems than electrical issues.

Change acceleration on the fly?

Yes, I did those chanes in gcode file, but that need to be fixed before we start the machining. Looking for run time solutions, like mentioned with the button push the accelaration should be change with the feed rate.

When I say 'change feed rate in real time' I don't mean the feed rate settings in the gcode I mean using a hal pin to change the current feed rate set in the gcode (ie feedrate override). You can slow it down to a stand still and even make it run backwards.

Anyone figured out how to get Trinamic's TMC5160 drivers working with LinuxCNC?

Category: Driver Boards

Can we other spi on rpi5 other than used by remora-spi to send config data to tmc5160. Tmc5160 spi config pins connected to rpi spi pins. And remora will treat 5160 as regular step/dir mode.

I am also communicating with cakeslob who is another developer for remora via discord.

I should be able to make it work; all I have to do is to add an option when you load the module to specify the use of the second SPI channel.

I did some quick tests on RPi 4 with the use of ioctl controlling /dev/spidev0.0 rather than the bcm2835 library and it seems to be slower/less regular. I just quickly compared my read and write functions time. As I have also read in another thread (a RPi 5 thread on this forum) this morning that the spidev option was not real-time, I will stick to the same idea as the Remora SPI, meaning using bcm2835 and rp1 library for RPi 4 and RPi5.

Problems with Lichuan Ethercat servo drive

Category: EtherCAT

 Please note this is not in anyway final. I just wanted to show how I am running and homing a gantry.
I would like to use the actual captured value of the index pulse, not just let LinuxCNC know that it's been hit, but at slow speeds it doesn't matter in my case.

Hello! Have you tried loading icons or .png into the "Label"? I created resources.qrc and specified two folders, one for icons and the second for image.png. Everything is ok in the preview. But when compiling in linuxcnc the image is not displayed!

Did you use the Flex Resource builder?
gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/resources.html

And add the resource to the ini file?
gnipsel.com/linuxcnc/flexgui/ini.html#resource-file

And did you watch the video?

Change acceleration on the fly?

@rodw,
I'm very grateful. The suggested external offsets operate in a manner comparable to what I require. I plan to try integrating them with my current Raspberry Pi setup.

When selecting an image, I didn’t choose resource, but indicated the path to the file,and everything was ok!!!!
