As long as I go with a 1920x1080 monitor, is that all QTDragon needs - or am I missing something?

The existing control panel on this machine is a really nice cast aluminum (?) enclosure. I'd like to just keep it, gut it, and stuff an open frame industrial monitor in it. It will fit somewhere between a 12" and 13" open frame monitor. Do you think that will be big enough - or will I find myself having to get stronger "cheaters" and constantly fat-fingering the QTDragon interface?
Yes 1080p is required for qtdragpn_hd. Mine was 1536pixels and not supported by any of the QTdragon versions.

I don't think you will get a 12-13" 1080p monitor. It was hard enough getting a  15.6in one to replace a nice flush mount one in an enclosure I madebut I shoehorned one in

American Ford Mustang 5.0 = 200HP, Japanese Yamaha R1 = 220HP, Europe 4.0 = 604HP
The choice is clear, by Japanese! :) Yes, back in days Civic had 150HP from 1.5 liter engine with no turbos, it had 160HP for Japanese market, it was crippled on purpose. Still was one of the best small nippy cars, behind MK1 Golf GTI = the grand daddy of hatchbacks.
End rant.

If you don't get the red fault light at startup,
(after removing the driver chips and with field power applied)
That likely means the 3.3V regulator and or DSPIC chip are toast.

More feedback here. Customer has an IT savvy brother. His brother told him to lift the torch to clear the stall after reviewing the code and it worked!
It goes without saying, I have asked for a line number reference. :)

I think this implies the bug lurks in the plasmac.comp state machine somewhere.

I've already found my plasmac bug for the day. Maybe someone elses turn!

Since it powers on, try starting LinuxCNC, then try some inputs while checking the "show hal configuration" from the "machine" menu if the LED's toggle.
Chips can be found (i think PCW mentioned somewhere he has some, not sure they are the same though) and are pretty easy to solder on with a normal soldering iron, so give it a try.

The same thing happened on PlasmaC and Phill fixed it, so it is strange that it happens on QTP but not on PlasmaC....well it did happen on PlasmaC, about once in 6-9 months of daily use, while on QTP it would happen daily, several times a day sometimes, then it would not happen for months, then happen again.....
Hence i do not use it on production machines.

Rants don't usually help ... however configuration backups (made from the settings tab) sometimes do. It's hard to diagnose otherwise since Phill, nor I, nor a guy who cut so much plate with QtPlasmaC he was able to sell his plasma table and buy a large fiber laser have seen this issue.

Also, adding the following to your postgui.hal file might help see where it gets stuck as well:
setp plasmac.debug-print 1

Lastly, it's worth noting that plasmac, plasmac2, and qtplasmac all use the same plasmac component at least to the extent where anything fixed in the original PlasmaC was carried forward to the same PlasmaC component today.

If there's a bug, no one wants to find it more than me, but it’s really challenging to identify a bug without being able to reproduce it. Can't squish a bug I can't see :)

Thanks Greg, I've beem away for years and find a bug in 5 minutes

In this case the the config to upgrade was nothing more than a sim!
Issues:
  1. The m_files folder was in ~/linuxcnc/nc_files/examples/plasmac, copied it into ~/linuxcnc/nc_files
  2. The files in the m_files folder under examples were owned by root and the user did not have permissions to the M codes
  3. The INI M_CODE variable in the ini file was not updated in qtplasmac_metric_ini.inc. I suspect this was because its not the top level ini file (I'm not sure if you actually write to that folder)
  4. The error message should refer to plasmac so the user knows its specific to Plasmac. I had to deduce that by checking other configs
  5. The version number reported does not reconcile with the version details displayed on startup 2.10.0-pre-4165-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
  6. Let me introduce you to Python try/except error handling www.w3schools.com/python/python_try_except.asp This would ensure the user is less bewildered when it  fails. There is nothing displayed on the screen when it fails
  7. Perhaps the message could be a little more specific eg "updating qtplasmac mcode folder"
  8. Perhaps the upgrade message could also be printed on the console. Displaying Top right when console is in bottom left meant I did not even see the error the first couple of times!
I might add Joco is also in trouble over this for adding these gcodes!
