need help! mesa 7i95 connection problem

Category: Driver Boards

Maybe you don't have a Intel MAC

lspci -nn | grep -i ethernet

Should list what you have.

Have you run a normal latency test?

EtherCAT Testing?

Category: EtherCAT

Is it possible to do any useful testing of EtherCAT hardware with a virtual machine running Linuxcnc?

I fully understand that Linuxcnc can't run with any realtime capabilities within a virtual machine.  But can an Ethercat configuration be set up, configured and connect to a real Ethercat device for testing purposes?  I don't want to set up and run a machine this way.  I would just like to see if I can read some IO modules, maybe configure/talk a drive and send it a command for bench testing.

What all could you expect this to do?  What things would be expected to not work at all?  What might sort of work?  Can Linuxcnc communicate with a Beckhoff PLC if so to what extent?

error running telnet using linuxcncrsh

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hi,to my hal file: loadusr -W hal_manualtoolchangenet tool-change iocontrol.0.tool-change => hal_manualtoolchange.change
net tool-changed iocontrol.0.tool-changed <= hal_manualtoolchange.changed
net tool-number iocontrol.0.tool-prep-number => hal_manualtoolchange.number
net tool-prepare-loopback iocontrol.0.tool-prepare => iocontrol.0.tool-prepared loadusr linuxcncrsh -n --name localhost, -p , --port 5007 I added the line in bold at the end of my hal file, and there didn't appear any error when I ran the CNC manually the Axis Gui. Everything works. But when i tried to run in this command "telnet localhost 5007", through the Terminal i got this error:Trying ::1...
Connection failed: Conexión rehusada
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]' I am using parallel port 0x378 What is missing or is wrong?Thanks a lot.

Qtvcp is included with linuxcnc.
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/gui/qtvcp.html
and Gladevcp
linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/gui/gladevcp.html

Both can be used for GUI building, Qtvcp is easier then Gladevcp I would say.

I have verified that the solution is feasible.

This can be a development direction of linuxcnc in the future, I am very willing to participate in it, If the development thread starts.

Hello troy!
We need you to share your code so that it can be improved and hopefully merged back in LinuxCNC. Is there any chance that you could publish it in any way?

Hi Grotius,

thanks for all the work you have put into this project to bring s curves to LinuxCNC. That's a really impressive achievement. Julian told me about your work.

I have not yet managed to work through all the papers in detail which you have linked so I might be a little bit underinformed but your definition of your torsion for 3D clothoids seems to be a bit unusual (or I don't understand it).

Is your intention like this?
theta0 & kappa0 -> xy => kappa0 = curvature
theta1 & kappa1 -> z => kappa1 = torsion for the 3D case

This would fit to your first approach to extend a clothoid to 3D by simply adding a second clothoid to the z dimension (which does not result in a curve with perfect curvature and torsion transition but probably way better than before). However, this is not how curvature and torsion of a 3D curve are defined in general so it will not fit to the 3D clothoid description in the Frego paper.

Best regards,
Fabian

Amplifier Fault ECT60 Closed Loop

So after throwing my ethercat stuff in the corner in disgust for six months or so ago, I pulled it out and finally fixed it!

I reset the drive to factory defaults by adding this into my xml file
<sdoConfig idx="1011" subIdx="01"><sdoDataRaw data ="01"/></sdoConfig>
Powered up Linuxcnc, homed the drive and tried to move it which sounded awful, then unplugged the power supply to the ECT60 ethercat drive.
Closed Linuxcnc and deleted that code from the XML file.

Hey presto running as smooth as a baby's bum!

The manual says
Sub-index of object dictionary 0x1011: 01 Write 1, and then power on again to restore the driver to the factory state. When restoring the factory setting, first stop the motor running, then save the parameters. Thats roughly what I did!

3D Metal Printing

So for the time being I have shelved this idea. It turns out to be vastly more complex then
I had envisioned. The problems I had come across ,
1 Having to purge the inner chamber of all Oxygen while doing the job,
2 Making sure the components where sealed against dust and make sure no risk
of spark,
3 Metal dust inhalation hazard when the machine would be opened back to the atmosphere,
4 Post process handling of said metal dust still in the part.
5 Cost of consumables ( inert gas, powdered metals, filters, ECT)
And lastly not enough demand for that process for the amount of hassle it implied.
Oh well. It was an interesting idea.

i typed in "sudo apt-get install ethtool" in order to follow some things mentioned here

forum.linuxcnc.org/27-driver-boards/3868...rking-issues?start=0

Now if I type "sudo ethtool -c enp86s0"

I get a bunch of messages.
most items are marked n/a
rx-usecs: 0
tx-usecs: 0

I assume I switched off what you suggested.

The ping times went down from approx. 0.5 ms to 0.5 ms :-( ?

"63 packets transmitted, 63 received, 0% packet loss, time 63476 ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 0.185/0.455/0.577/0.05 ms"

I am not sure what the conclusion is.

p.s. that I get anything at all is a plus.  From all packets lost to 0% is progress.

Thanks for the reply!

I actually did go through it all already and actually started doing something in that direction, but I got stuck on trying to install the Glade. Since I already did a lot of mess trying to install Qt and playing with QtPyVCP, I decided to try setting the fresh instance of linuxcnc following all the steps that I documented when I did it first time. Then I figured out that they no longer work :D and decided to actually ask for the help because it seems to be the endless loop of trials and error :D

I am at work now, but when I come home this evening I'll try again and c/p the errors that I am getting.

M-code to toggle macrobutton not working on QtDragon

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hi, I think I am progressing, but not completely.Enclosed my new M100 and subroutine files.The purpose is to assign to a macrobutton in QtDragon an o-word script with a MDI-COMMAND that would allow me to toggle on and off a laser. (I have a 10W from Creality), besides my spindle that will of course be switched off.The laser is connected to an output pin (hal_pi_gpio.pin-10-out) and this pin is connected to a signal (laser-on). In the subroutine, I want to check what the status of this output pin is and then switching OFF if it is ON or switching ON if it is OFF.Since the hal-pi-gpio is connected to a signal, I cannot use getp and are using gets. But since subroutines do not accept halcmd gets commandes, I made a macro (M100) to fetch the status of the hal-pi-gpio. So far so good.Now when pushing the button, M100 does his job and stores the status of the hal-pi-gpio in a variable (

Hal configuration for BISS encoder

Category: HAL

For people who might be looking to set similar hardware: The hm2_pci configuration string "biss_chan_0=start%1bxencoder%24ezero%2ueerror%1bwarning%1bcrc%6f" works correctly for my setup of Renishaw (RLS) AS10 scale with LA11 reader.
To set the right scale, I noted down the total raw counts the encoder was spitting on pin: hm2_5i25.biss.0.xencoder.rawcounts and divided the total count with physical length of the scale measured in millimeter in my case. It turned out to be 1000000 counts per millimeter. I tried setting the scale with setp hm2_5i25.0.biss.00.xencoder.scale 1000000 and the linuxcnc GUI showed correct measurement.

I solved setting up the linear scale part of the equation and now am trying to make a precision servo axis with the said scale system coupled with a low cost BLDC motor and drive: robokits.co.in/automation-control-cnc/br...rmcs-6611-750w-drive

{Buying this drive was a mistake but in my defence, it did mention it has pulse input mentioned in its listing: robokits.co.in/motor-drives-drivers/brus...odbus-rtu-compatible
The seller suggests using bc547 transistor based external circuit to pull the SV pin on the drive to ground at the step frequency from 7i76 but I am unable to understand why it's not working for me when the seller setup the same circuit and sent me the video of driving the motor using pulse signals from an arduino.}

@PCW if you could make exact same 3 channel BISS firmware but with 6i25_7i77_7i74 this time. I would like to try making the available components (the motor & drive) into closed loop servo axis.
Also can we use pwmgen instead of stepgen on 7i76 to interface with the drive I have?
