This is for PlasmaC so has a lot of other stuff you might not need, but the homing stuff is with shared switches to save on inputs.

Hi Friends,

Sorry for the delay in getting and update posted. I got the tandem limit switch wired up and all of the pins inverted so now i am getting a red state at idle but when the limit switch or estop is depressed it turns yellow. So all my estop and limit pins seem to be working as expected.

I think this topic is solved. I have a litany of other issues that if i need novel help ill create a new topic. I appreciate your help. Slowly but surely we're going to get a working machine.

Hello from Florida. What is this snow you speak of? LOL

I have a cousin in Orlando, some years ago i called him new years eve, it was -17C here while he was in shorts drinking and wandering through town! I still hate him for that, i like summer.

Operating computers in the cold

Category: Computers and Hardware

Desiccant sounds good at first, but these do "fill up" quickly. I have dozens of these bags in a 3D printer filament storage container. Even though it is completely sealed (with a gasket), all those bags are only good for about a year. Then they all must be baked at 110degC for 8-12h to rejuvenate them; moisture is insidious.

If you try this, place a quality hygrometer inside. Will likely find that the humidity stays low for only a month or so, even with a good seal.

The moisture alone probably is not causing the inability to start. The way most computers and power supplies are designed, just is not favorable to low temperatures. Very few are, because that is not a typical use case for a computer. Section 5.6 of the RaspberryPi4B says that is good down to 0degC - but then must consider whatever power supply is used for it. The characteristics of semiconducting materials changes as temperature changes, so functionality at low temps has to be something designed into it. Once had a quirky home computer that "complained" at 19degC and refused to run at 18.

If it were my machine, I'd put a heater (like a hair dryer on low setting) near the computer, along with a thermostat. Set the thermostat to say 20degC, and just let it warm up until the thermostat starts cycling. Of course need to be careful nothing can get too hot. Warming should take an hour or more - rushing it is not advised; the whole computer needs to warm up slowly. Then run the machine. That may be easier than re-engineering a quirky power supply or replacing the computer.  Unless anyone knows of an industrial-rated computer (and power supply.) :)

lcec config exited without becoming ready

Is the config file really located there?
loadusr -W lcec_conf /home/tom/linuxcnc/configs/ethercat-conf.xml

Normally there is a sub-directory to configs, like
loadusr -W lcec_conf /home/tom/linuxcnc/configs/My_Machine/ethercat-conf.xml

EtherCAT + lcec + cia402 + PID on A6-1000EC in velocity control mode

Category: EtherCAT

Hi, i'm trying to make my servo spin through ethercat and I can't seem to get it moving.This is the kit:
www.omc-stepperonline.com/a6-series-1000...67-a6-ec1000h2a1-m17
I have a simple example without linuxcnc gui, just a .hal file and a ethercat-conf.xml. I can read the feedback values like current encoder position and velocity but I can't make the servo move. When i run the hal file with
halrun -T -kf simple.hal
The drive enables and the fan starts spinning but the servo doesn't even hold position.

note: This one has a brake that I disabled with an external power supply. I can spin the motor with my hand.

I'm new to ethercat in general so any help would be appreciated.

looking for a post processor to be used with Fusion 360

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thanks Rod That is what I have been doing and it works fine. Being the curious type I wanted to see if there was on that could be used in Fusion. It seems that there are others for different Post processors. The hang up is the different G-code commands the QTPlasmaC use for some of the actions. One being the probe command of G38

Limit3 and busy hands buttons

I'm likely missing something, but is there some reason an "and2" component wouldn't work for your buttons?

net BTN1 => and2.in0
net BTN2 => and2.in0
net BOTH-BTNS-PRESSED <= and2.out

And from there whatever motion you need is only triggered by the and2.out going true?

HAL and INI files for Dual Y Axis, HY VFD

Category: Advanced Configuration

I am migrating to a dual Y axis setup (from a single) and need some help. My setup is basically:
  • LinuxCNC 2.9
  • Parallel port BOB
  • 4x stepper drivers (currently, I have two drivers connected to the same Y step+dir signals, but will move these to each of the Y signals are separate)
  • Proximity sensors for homing (but not for limit checking on each extreme)
  • HY VFD connected via RS-485
Can anyone please share their HAL and INI files with me for their similar setup?

Thanks!

yes, that's right, I wanted to understand what this component brings.

Would you mind starting a new thread for tangential questions?
