What's the most appropriate place to discuss changes to Linuxcnc source code?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

There are several ways of contacting developers as listed here
linuxcnc.org/community/
Many of then are often on IRC.
Thank you.

Spindle Pulses Lost in System

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Why is your hal scope running at 250Hz? It usually runs at 1000Hz.
And yes, i had issues with cheap BOB's so i stopped using them, some could not do 5KHz properly, but i do have one that uses no optos and is very fast but consequently lacks isolation, hence it also collects dust in the shop.
Some things to notice, BOB's are almost always 5V devices, putting 24V encoders on the inputs might not be healthy for the optos, but again, depending on how they are wired, might also be perfectly OK.
How do the pulses look on the output of optos AND Mesa inputs?

What's the most appropriate place to discuss changes to Linuxcnc source code?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Well, I am working on spindle temperature compensation and I would like to discuss some details regarding changes in source code.
I want the compensation mechanism to be fully transparent to User, so that no coordinates presented to user would change. This indeed requires modification of LinuxCNC code base. I am fully capable to do these changes, but instead of reinventing the wheel by studying the whole source code, I would rather like to get advice from someone who is aware of the whole picture.
Is this forum able to help? Or should I ask for help on Github?
Thank you!

I am in the Windows trap since many years ago when Alibre Design had a good price of 99$ and at that time Windows was good.
For many years I bought the updates to Alibre Design.

Now I have a lot of job files in Alibre Design™ Expert Version: V25 64-bit, have been looking at FreeCAD and have ‘recently’ learnt the CAM part of FreeCAD to get the NC files.

Then the software for running my 3D scanners:
Revopoint3d: Windows, Mac, IOS and Android
scandimension: Windows and Mac
Creality: Windows and Android

So it's not just jumping over to Linux and Mac doesn't appeal to me.
The day Alibre Design and the software to connect the 3D scanners to get the data is in Linux, then I can switch away from Windows.

Thanks for the feedback.

Tommylight-
I don't think it's the optoisolators. They're supposedly good to 80 kHz. Also, I confirmed with an oscilloscope the opto input AND output signals are present up to 3,000 RPM (9kHz), and it all looks to be working. The optos are certainly inexpensive 817C. Do you have specific experience with this being a problem?

PCW-
As I mentioned, I have a Mesa 7i92. Is there a hardware encoder that's compatible with this that you'd recommend? I don't have quardrature, just an index and A signal.

If the DC motor still has the original encoder, then its 5V differential with 500ppr.

The 'Touch Off' and 'Tool Touch Off' buttons create an MDI call with an G10 L... command through the python interface. I'm afraid I have no idea how that could randomly start a tool change process in your config.

Agregar un 5to Eje.

Gracias tommylight.

Solo queda chequearlos.

scurve trajectory planner

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Works in 3d space.
Conversion of arc's to linestrips is required.
The new trajectory tends to move inwards when on a circle.

1. Nice
2. Seems unproblematic as that is what a lot of cam output does anyway and deviation can be easily calculated and adjusted.
3. I think that's the same behavior as the current planner.

Thanks

Koike Aronson Plasma Conversion - sanity check on Mesa board selection?

Category: Driver Boards

Thanks for the reply, I'll make those changes.  Most of the values are just placeholders for now, trying to get the overall structure of the files right and then will populate the specific values.   The machine is the same one as in this post, it has a servos on X and Y and a smart stepper motor from Animatics on the Z, which we may replace with a simple stepper driven by a TB6600 stepper motor driver.  The servo drives are from Advanced Motion Controls (BE15A8) www.a-m-c.com/product/be15a8/ and the drives are from Cleveland Motion Control MTE3528-508BG.   Also, thanks for posting the servo tuning link. I read through it a few times already and will definitely follow that when we get to that point.   In the files, how can I confirm that the stepper driver is getting assigned to the 7i78 vs the 7i97T?

spumco post=319783 userid=28776Ok, I do have a Fusion 360 subscription that requires internet...

But I knew about that ahead of time as well as forced updates.  Eyes wide open on that one.

of course while on that subject

The way I have seen the whole situation on Bambu is this.
Yes I own an X1C. I had recommended the same to a friend. Then within a month of said purchase
this new "Beta" firmware was being set for release. It's implications warranted my recommending
my friend to cancel his order because I will not recommend a company, service, or device that tries
to change it's terms of sale or service after the purchase. No this isn't even remotely close to the
first company to try the frog in the frying pan tactics. But since that's been done by numerous entities
in the past from manufacturers to governments. and hilariously it's usually in the name of safety
and security. In reality it's about profits and control. I don't see it a coincidence that Bambu Lab did this
right after 2 massive sales.

Plotting the following error vs joint velocity in halscope may give a clue.

Do you have the DPLL enabled?

Have you tried a longer DPLL setting (say -100 instead of pncconfs default -50)

(following errors due to host jitter will show up mainly during acceleration)
