Flexible GUI

Category: Flex GUI

I'm at the point where I'm trying to integrate all of the hardware controls with the UI so I'm fixing things little by little.

Is here any way to show a selected axis label, either from motion or halui? I looked through the docs and didn't quite see anything that looked like it would work even from hal pins. Like I would need a label with multiple bit inputs and the text would be different for any input that is true. Unless there is some other way to catch this.

Taster für Y-Achsen-Speed in LinuxCNC 2.8 einbinden

Category: Deutsch

# Verknüpfe die Taste mit dem Jog-Enable-Signal der Y-Achse
  net  Footswitch halui.axis.y.plus  <= hm2_7i95.0.inmux.00.input-07
# Speed festlegen
  setp halui.axis.jog-speed 1200

Problems to install QT Designer - Linuxcnc 2.9.3

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I found an issue in my file source.list. This is now correct.
Installed QT Designer with success.

2 issues I have to fix due to:

How can I add a symbolic link and create the plugins/python folder in detail, so that qt designer can find qtvcp_plugin.py?
Tried to create python folder with command mkdir, but it isn`t possible in folder /designer to get:
’/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/designer/python’

The current OS

That's a silly question, sure. Is the server environment created by yourself?
Or is the server environment managed?

Notes:
1) If we have installed our own server that runs on Ubuntu, the server may need to be updated.
1.1) Ask the person who installed the server!
1.2) Do nothing without a backup!!!

That person is no longer part of this community.

"I think that as long as it gets fed with fresh (moisturized air) it will be saturated too quickly."

My control cabinet is nearly airtight, in my opinion tight enough to stop an inrush of warm, moist air as the weather changes. The computer would live inside the cabinet and only ever come in contact with the same air that has been de moisturized by my dessicant bags.

Also, as soon as spring comes and the average temperature goes up I don't anticipate many issues with this as it worked fine breathing outside air all trough summer and fall

As much as we had a difference of opinion our work flow seems to be on similar lines.

Now that the RPI5 has a driver suitable for the 7c81, it’s time to see if this BSPI thing works on the clone I put together.
I’ll use your thread as a reference, print out some of the man pages, 7i65 code, some data sheets and get the highlighters out. I guess a I’ll have to build the bit file as well.

IIRC the problem with BSPI is that it was rarely ever used after it was written. I guess one lesser known Mesa card used it and I could only dig up a single ancient thread about it. I recall I was asking about it and toward the end of the thread it clicked in my head how the data packets work......then I shelved it. Maybe I'll get back to it one day.

PROBE RADIUS COMPENSATION was created by Ahmed.emara

PROBE RADIUS COMPENSATION

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hi everyone,I’m currently working on calibrating my 5-axis CNC milling machine, and I’ve encountered a few challenges. I need to accurately probe multiple points on a workpiece (such as a rectangular block or sphere) to align the machine and compensate for any errors. The goal is to determine the exact machine positions relative to the theoretical workpiece coordinates. For this, I’ve been debating whether to buy a commercial probing tool (e.g., Renishaw or Blum) or design and build my own probing tool. Here’s what I’ve been considering:

  • When the B-axis is tilted, compensating for the probe radius can get tricky. For example, if I’m probing a side of a rectangular block, I have to account for offsets in both X and Z (or other axes, depending on the tilt). This makes me wonder if switching to a spherical calibration disk might simplify things, as the sphere has constant radius compensation regardless of tilt.
  • I’ve designed a potential DIY probe where the tool tip is connected to 24V, and the workpiece (or calibration disk) is connected to the CNC controller’s input port. When contact is made, the circuit closes, and the signal is detected. This seems similar to how commercial probes work but is much simpler.
my Questions are :
1- if i switched to spherical shape instead of rectangular one will it simplify the calibration process, especially when compensating for B-axis tilt?
2- is there is a predefined probe radius compensation in linuxcnc which i can use and it take considaration a titled workpiece
3- For a DIY probe using the method described above (24V signal on contact), will this provide sufficient accuracy and reliability for calibration purposes or should I invest in a commercial probe for the long term ?

Right now I'm just looking at how Arduino-connector handles connection states. It seems that even the normal outputs don't reset when LinuxCNC is closed so things that were previously on (like LEDs) stay on. The same happens with the I2C outputs so I suppose it's expected.  Not sure if that's the intended behavior but I've trying to figure out how to reset all outputs (pull low) on disconnect. It's a bit hard to debug since there's only 1 serial connection referenced and it's taken over when LinuxCNC connects, but I have another serial port I can direct debug prints to.

Yes, I figure it is dangerous if the Arduino changes States by itself, at least if People decide to connect other things than LED Lights in Buttons to the Output pins. I implemented new settings in the new version that allows to define behaviour if the connection is lost.

Other than that it all seems to work pretty good, I found a blocking delay in the comalive function that was creating a bit of delay. I replaced that with a timer and it works much better. That plus the tweaks mentioned in the git issues, it's pretty responsive now.

Once I get done putzing around, I'll clean up my code a bit and upload it somewhere.

You can create a pull request if you want and I will merge it into the project.

Thanks Phil,

I'm using the latest version from Synaptic Package Manager

I have tried to get 2.9.2 & 2.9.3 to load from usb, but i'm not having any luck with this.

About to enter the build bot rabbit hole.
