Awesome Grotius, I plan on installing and testing on machine this week! Super excited to do some comparisons between previous known rough motion programs and show the difference. I will get some good video footage to share!

rotation plane around y axis in g18

Category: G&M Codes

I think that for a cnc, rotations in the G17-G19-G20 planes are fundamental. There are many machines that have a double spindle, one installed vertically and the other horizontally. In these cases it is necessary to change the plane and the rotation of the plane, allows to greatly facilitate the work of programming the piece.

got back to this looks like it in the macros, wrote a probe micro and ran it with no problems. guess i need to look at the macros themselves and see if i can find were the '/' is getting sent to the code

Operating computers in the cold

Category: Computers and Hardware

I have tried the computer again today and on first startup everything seemed fine. I decided to install it back into its enclosure. To do that however I had to disconnect power so I shut it down. On the second boot it gave me the power supply error beeping.

So this thing is cooked in my opinion.

I have a new idea to fix this issue however. Since my control cabinet is basically sealed all around I don't gget an air exchange from inside to outside except for the computer fan. I have the face of the computer poking out the side of the enclosure now.
If I seal that hole up and just put a computer inside there with a big bag of dessicant in my mind the air will be robbed of all moisture by the dessicant so there is no water to condensate on my next computer.
I'm also planning to put some dessicant into the main electrical cabinet to save the power electronics and mesa cards from too much moisture.

Is that a sound plan?

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

I'm still having issues with interference with the encoder. But it works at very low speed. I'm trying to get the feed per rev working but I can't.  anyone spot any issues with the halshows pins in the video? Spindle is working fine and displayed on the axis scale. It looks like there is no spindle rev ,

This was when i was learning to use FreeCAD, that is about a week 1-2 hours a day, from nothing to a full machine with assemblies so i can move head and gantry.

help to compensate for changes in the rack

I've thought of everything, I haven't found any problem other than the rack, the engines aren't, I measured the entire structure with a dial indicator, nothing seat, I've recalculated the scales several times, everything is fine, the only idea is that the rack It came with a different space, as it is unique

Fanuc Serial Pulse Coders - Red cap servos, mesa 7i76e, how to?

Category: Driver Boards

Yes, you can use 7i76E with 7i84 with a cut in half LAN cable (see manual for wiring), and 7i85 with a IDC26 to DB25 cable (available on Mesa stores and even some older PC's have them, look for a parallel port on the back slots). BTW, 2 of 7i85 could be used as 7i76E has two IDC26 headers, or similar boards, and you can add more 7i84 or 7i79 or 7i71 or 7i72 to 7i85.

Is that just a y thing?

Regarding tandem Y axis?
Yes it is, but it can be also X axis or Z or any axis that use 2 or more motors, they can not be jogged until the machine is homed to prevent bending the machine.
LinuxCNC will show a warning whenever you try to jog tandem axis, but it will not spin the motors, while single motor axis will jog.

Can those servos take step/dir signals?
Assuming yes, so consider them simple stepper drives.
If motors are not mounted on a machine, just enter some rough estimates in the wizard (you did not say it using parallel port or Mesa card, both can have DB25 connectors and uses BOB's) to get stuff moving, you can at any time make new configurations and have as many as you like/need.

Spindle Load feedback in LinuxCNC

Category: Basic Configuration

....Anyways my idea is if I could get a lesson on what's needed to make a readout like you've got and somehow program it so that if the load is too high it would alter the feed/speed so that a chip size of set value would never exceed the capabilities of the motor. That and another possible feature would be an estop trigger if the load was too high and RPM lower than a set threshold. Is any of this possible or am I just crazy?

I am sure LinuxCNC can adjust the feed rate depending on spindle load feedback so it slows down the feed if the spindle load exceeds the programmed value, some examples

ProbeBasic and sidemount, retractable 3D Probe

Category: QtPyVCP

For now yes that is correct. we have a branch we are working on with a database type tool table which will allow for many more functional options and usable tool parameters to be stored and called upon during subroutines. one of those parameters will be tool storage so it knows which tools are storable in the atc and which are not etc. there will be some really awesome updates coming with the tool database updates.

Age of the website and forum

Category: Forum Questions

There are 3 active forums at the same time, and as far as i can tell, they are all replicated (meaning the content is copied from one to others automatically):
The one we are using
forum.linuxcnc.org
The one on the same server but in a different folder
www.forum.linuxcnc.org
And another one with no domain name, just the IP address with no secure connection active
162.243.45.186
That is also on the Digital Ocean servers
www.whois.com/whois/162.243.45.186
The first two are for sure on the same virtual servers, so updating one impacts the other, the third might or might not also be on the same virtual server, there is no way of knowing from my point of view.
