Connecting to FANUC αi-B βi-B (62XX) series servos to LinuxCNC system?

Category: Driver Boards

I have used this converter board for Alpha (anything) 32, 65 and 128 encoders.
I also tested it with the (alpha)iAR128 (A860-2010-T341) and it worked fine.
I had a guy who tried it with the A860-2027-X003 or β64iA encoder, and the data rate on that encoder is different. So, I don't actually know which encoders will and won't work with my converter board. But, somewhere between A860-2010 and -2027 they changed that serial data rate.

This kind of message after an update has never been used before. IMHO it should go into the update script not in the GUI code!
And do we want user to edit a text file like in old DOS times? The popup needs a checkbox with "do not show again" and after clicking the message ist gone for ever.

Error problem hm2 7i96s 7i77 analogout scalemax not found ?

Category: HAL

Hello everyone, I'm back, happy 2025 to all. Please, I need help to return to the retrofit process of a punching machine.
I have the hardware configuration 7i96s + 7i77 + 7i84d and THCAD2
I need to make the 7i77 board work to drive the Z axis with feedback from the THCAD2. To get a basic code example, I used linuxCNC's PNCConf to generate a basic code example.

The basic code generated was:

# ---PWM Generator signals/setup---

setp hm2_7i96s.0.7i77.0.0.analogout0-scalemax [JOINT_1]OUTPUT_SCALE
setp hm2_7i96s.0.7i77.0.0.analogout0-minlim [JOINT_1]OUTPUT_MIN_LIMIT
setp hm2_7i96s.0.7i77.0.0.analogout0-maxlim [JOINT_1]OUTPUT_MAX_LIMIT

net z-output => hm2_7i96s.0.7i77.0.0.analogout0
net z-pos-cmd <= joint.1.motor-pos-cmd
net z-enable <= joint.1.amp-enable-out

# ---Encoder feedback signals/setup---

setp hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.counter-mode 0
setp hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.filter 1
setp hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.index-invert 0
setp hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.index-mask 0
setp hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.index-mask-invert 0
setp hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.scale [JOINT_1]ENCODER_SCALE

net z-pos-fb <= hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.position
net z-vel-fb <= hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.velocity
net z-pos-fb => joint.1.motor-pos-fb
net z-index-enable joint.1.index-enable <=> hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.index-enable
net z-pos-rawcounts <= hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.00.rawcounts

# ---setup home / limit switch signals---

net z-home-sw => joint.1.home-sw-in
net z-neg-limit => joint.1.neg-lim-sw-in
net z-pos-limit => joint.1.pos-lim-sw-in

But when trying to apply this example the error appears:

hm2_7i96s.0.7i77.0.0.analogout0-scalemax not found

The board The 7i77 electronics have all the necessary voltages, all the yellow LEDs are on and the green one too.

I have already managed to control the output and input through the classicladder, but unfortunately I am not having success in controlling the Z axis.

The HAL configuration is

loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="10.10.10.10" config="num_encoders=8 num_pwmgens=1 num_stepgens=5 sserial_port_0=3000"

Note: the number 3 in sserial_port_0 was necessary to recognize the 7i84d

How do I solve the error problem: hm2_7i96s.0.7i77.0.0.analogout0-scalemax not found?

I appreciate any suggestions or basic examples for configuring the 7i77

@Hansu

Copy and move might be needed by lot of people, as transferring part programs with USB Stick is quite useful even not being up to date ;-)
If only one file manager, than we should think about the buttons to copy / paste and change the location with the existing button.

Tho I would never take away anyone's freedom to use & quote ChatGPT. People can chose what they want to use.

To tell the truth I have nothing against grbl, it has it's place, makes entry to cnc easier for the majority. I have a little desktop router thingy that originally came with a grbl controller, tho it's a good test bed for testing my 7c81 clone. I've had no inclination to convert my laser cutter\engraver to Linuxcnc. Same goes with my 3D printer, Marlin does the job, tho I did upgrade the controller board for the "silent" steppers and turning fans off when not in use. Octoprint is kinda handy as well. Saves walking 6 feet to change sd cards over. ;)

TBH I could have run my mill & lathe with grbl, but I would have lacked such great features such a screw cutting on the lathe, feed by mm per rpm. Tho it has advanced somewhat but haven't really looked at it for years. Tho with the lathe I'm still figuring out with cnc will suit my work flow......tho save my the best part of AUD $600-700 getting a new leadscrew.....Gotta love the Myford price gouging hahahaha. Considering I built the lathe from parts, the only part that had all the bits needed was the head stock, bed, clutch, saddle, cross slide and the rest were all bought bit by bit. Saved buying a rusty worn out of piece of crap and having to replace all the bits anyways.

I wouldn't rule grbl out if it does the job. Look if you can build a boat by cutting sections by hand, stitching with wire and then covering it in 'glass & epoxy, I reckon grbl would be fine.

So....

BTW Maslow goes at about 1 inch per second so there are no kinematics.

After reading a couple of descriptions of kinematics being a layman I would take it that it would be impossible (someone is bound to cite an example to the opposite) to remove kinematics from the cnc environment.

I have expressed my disdain for ChatGPT ? How it tries to push society towards a certain dogma and exposes the developers leanings ? It's a form of brainwashing, a product by the sheeple for the sheeple. Today's "rebels" towing & pushing the ideology of those that would want to subdue and have total control. The whole coof debarkle was a test run.

Hello @cornholio,

From ChatGPT "what is kinematics":

"Kinematics is a branch of physics that focuses on describing the motion of objects without considering the forces or interactions that cause the motion. It is concerned with analyzing the position, velocity, and acceleration of objects as functions of time."

From ChatGPT "maslow cnc website": www.maslowcnc.com/ Thought I saw some videos online of Maslow showing it flying around but that's just time-lapse. It's a plain vanilla DeWalt router that's creeping around. Very low motion - no need to worry about it (I believe).

"Cutter raising up because of a knot" - good point. This isn't quite child's play.

GRBL - OK. So, a non-starter. Now what do I do?

You reminded me there are Maslow forum(s) so let me go to them.

LowRider - Wow - in several dimensions! Print your own machine.

Can the stepgen LPT work in conjunction with the mesa card?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Yes, you can use parallel and Mesa at the same time on the same machine.
Check if you added the step pin to the hal file.

Can the stepgen LPT work in conjunction with the mesa card?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Yes, You can do that. I have my old LPT machine were two steppers are still on the old "as is" Chinese beakout board. (z-Axis stepper driver died recently, so I moved that to Mesa as well)
One stepper (now two) , the Spindle, the Spindle Encoder and the MPG (handwheel are handled with the Mesa Card)

Greetings Timo

p.s. the simple reason for the "Frankenstein" was that I was too lazy to re-wire all the steppers and had no documentation for the stepper driver interface, so I kept the running 3 axis config and only added the "new functions, (damaged functions) to to the Mesa card.
