Hello Chris,

As announced, I tested the modified module today. The Z-axis is now moving. So far, I haven’t noticed any incompatibilities that might be due to a version conflict. Will you coordinate with Bill regarding the change? Will the modifications will be incorporated into a future update?

Thank you very much for your support and the work on this fantastic project.

PREEMPT_RT no longer needed in Ubuntu?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I'm using ubuntu 22.04.4 with the initrd.img-5.15.0-1061-realtime kernel (PREEMPT_RT)
and a Mesa 6i25 pci card.

I get very good jitter so I'll stick with that for now.
I'm running a RIP install of 2.9.0~pre and want to upgrade to 2.9.2 but don't want to loose the edits I've done in the RIP directory.
Any suggestions?

All good.
Might be good to have a price estimate, though.

Sorry for the very late reply. Death in the family put all sideline projects on hold.

INTERP_IDLE has proven to be a mixed bag with other US components of mine. I'm looking at switching to C++ and getting a little lower level. If I have the chops.

Resources for C++ User Space Component Authoring?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I've been writing US components in Python, and want to test the C++ waters. Are there any resources to get me going? My C++ skills are middling...

Mesa 5i25 and 7i77 and Geckodrive G340's for sale

Category: User Exchange

I have an unused Mesa 5i25 / 7I77 setup for sale in the UK that has only been bench tested , but never fitted to a machine.
Also, 4 off Geckodrive G340's ,early ones, again, run on bench, but not on a machine.
Not sure of the protocol on this Forum, please advise.

Good afternoon, I came to ask for help once again, a while ago in this post I asked a question and they told me the charge pump, I have some doubts, I saw in the video that they put the link that the charge pump activates a relay, so that Would this relay be exactly? I saw the video, but I don't speak English, I translate everything, then I didn't understand much because I couldn't translate

Encoder connection for threading on lathe

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

1 PPR threading should be OK with a servo spindle (its no good if the spindle speed varies)
But there is no direct support for this with Mesa encoders so its probably easiest to use A/B/I

Theoretically you could connect the drives index to the encoder A and I inputs and use interpolated position
but this has not been tried AFAIK.

Edit, I just tried this and it does seem to work:

1. Connect 1 PPR signal to Mesa encoder A and I.
2. Set encoder scale to 1 and count mode true.
3. Use encoders interpolated position (this may be in LinuxCNC 2.10 only)

So I moved the hard drive to another motherboard and now all is well with the setup. Must have an incompatibility or a problem on the one motherboard.

Encoder connection for threading on lathe

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hello,
I was hijacking another guy's similar thread about roughly the same subject, but I should really stop cluttering his thread now and make my own.
I have now bought some of the very common Chinese AC servos on aliexpress (Lichuan with A5 drives), and will be using them as both axis and spindle motors.

The spindle motor will drive the spindle with a 1:1 ratio, so the plan was to just use the encoder output from the servo drive as-is, directly into the encoder input on the 7i96s.

I have understood that an index pulse will be enough to do threading on the lathe (both single point and rigid?), but will it be beneficial to feed the A+, A-, B+ and B- pulses also? or will it just complicate things?

The trajectory period can be set though it defaults to the servo thread period.

Thank you for fast response.
Put that line in file probe_basic_postgui.hal as it was defined in INI file and now it works!

Put that in postgui.hal file, not in the main hal, probably those pins are created by GUI so when trying to load from the main hal, they still do not exist.
This is just a guess.
