7i96s maximum number of encoders?

Category: Driver Boards

With a single input, it must connect to the 'A' pin.
(and the encoder counter set to counter mode)

That works , I now have an external pot controlling Feed Override. Not sure why hm2_7i96s.0.encoder.04.velocity is negative?, but I used scale to flip the polarity and that seems to work.

Tomorrow I will add Jog speed in a similar fashion, and then on to the MPG's, I think the MPG's are the last hurdle.

Thanks for all your help

Program exceeds machine maximum X and Y Axis

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

In my fixture offsets it shows 70 for X and on the lower half it shows -70 for Y. I believe the table is a 8 x 12, Star Labs. How would i check if it is metric or imperial? I also use SheetCam TNG for my CAM

Custom PC build for my brothers company and more

Category: Show Your Stuff

This is my latest build, not CNC but hey it can be used to control CNC's and yes i did run LinuxCNC on it and it ran perfectly, of course since a Ryzen 9 5950X does not even notice LinuxCNC is running given it's 16 full cores (no Rod, your PC does not have 20 cores, Intel lied to you ... and the rest of the world, Atom cores are not worth a dime).
It also has my ex Radeon RX6800XT so Doom Eternal does over 250FPS with RT on and all settings at "ultra violence" or similar, and looks amazing on a 34" ultra wide monitor.

Program exceeds machine maximum X and Y Axis

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Just asking, no help on their forums or no forums at all?
-
On the first picture, it shows up at the offsets as 70 on X, while lower it shows -70?
On the third and fourth picture, the starting points are OK for both X and Y, but end points are over the limits on both X and Y, meaning even if you move the offsets for X it will still not fit on Y as there are no offsets on Y.
What is the table size?
Is the Plasma (you should have mentioned it is a plasma) set in metric or imperial?
What CAM are you using?

I've been a Linux guy for years, so FreeCAD is the only game in town if you want CAD + CAM (with adaptive toolpaths, at least). I said this in the FreeCAD thread, but my experience is the CAD is pretty good, once you learn how to not make "fragile" models. The UI even seems fine to me, though there are plenty of folks who would disagree with that assessment, so YMMV.

The CAM still has some rougher edges, but I'm working on sanding off those that annoy me specifically- shameless self-promotion that making automagic adaptive roughing a reality is my current effort on that front. That's going to be soooooo nice to have.

I'd also suggest giving the weekly "unstable" builds a chance if you want to test FreeCAD- they get improvements/bugfixes well before the official releases and on average (IME) give a much better experience... with the occasional build that totally breaks something, so I always kept the previous week's build until I knew the current one didn't have anything critical broken in it*. YMMV, of course.

*past tense in that sentence only because due to the development work I've been doing I've been building my own "weekly" builds, not because I've stopped using the bleeding edge

I suspect you'll be happier without Windows/Fusion 360 based on your complaints, even if learning curves bite in the short term. The FreeCAD forum is fairly helpful if you run into problems.

motor-0-position error beim Abbremsen aus 4-7,5 m/min

Category: Deutsch

Hello PCW! My cold is better today and I could test your suggestions - YES! That was the solution. I can move my machine per jog or handwheel with full G0, braking does not bring the motor-0-positon error anymore! Thanks a lot for another magic change !
Kind regards
Hanno

Yes, you need to both connect to the proper pins that connect
to the internal hardware encoder _AND_ modify your hal file so
it uses the hardware encoder rather than the encoder component.

That is, you will no longer have anything in the hal file that
refers  to GPIO 13 or 15 nor loadrt's the encoder component

tommylight-
The spec sheet on the opto says it's rated for 5-24V input, with a 30V max, so it should be OK. The output is 0-5V, so that should also be OK. I'll take a look at all the signals again when I get back to the lathe.

PCW-
It's been a while since I wired up all of this, so forgive me if I don't remember it all.
The 7i92 was flashed with G540x2D.bit

It appears that I mis-connected the "A" signal to the DB25 P13 / HAL 16 and the Index to DB25 P11 / HAL 14.
I'm going to move the wires around and connect them to DB25 P10 and P12 to see if that has an effect. Is that what you were referring to when you talked about Firmware?

Tormach will be more pissed, cause if I manage to do this right, it will directly compete with the 440 and 770 as a higher performance alternative if you don't need to make heavy steel cuts.

Run external script on NGC file load?

Category: Gmoccapy

Hi Guys,

I would like to run an external program automatically upon loading a file. Are there any hooks for doing with this LinuxCNC / Gmoccapy?

My goal is to compare the tools in the CAM generated file to my current tool table and make sure there are no mis-matches.

Thanks

-Jim
