LinuxCNC 2.9.4 Released

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Big thanks to Andy.
Another to Rod for all his hard work.
And the rest of the devs, those that found bugs and everyone else involved.

On a personal note I'd like to give a big thanks to royka for being so patient with myself regarding the kernel config & patching. Cheers mate.

Rpi5 image tested, I'll test the Rpi4 this arvo and get it up. For those that are interested the Rpi images have the SPI interface enabled by default, no need to edit config.txt and reboot.

7i96S card arrived what setup is recomended

Category: Driver Boards

7I96S    CL57
+5V     PUL+
STEP-   PUL-
+5V     DIR+
DIR-     DIR-

SW3 Set for 5V mode

The ENA, ALM and BRK can be left unconnected

Thank you PWC for your helps. I appreciate it.

I have read page 12 of the 7I96S manual several times, but I don't think I fully understand it ( this is all new for me ):

[
...
Some drives with higher than normal input current requirements benefit from single ended wiring as this cuts the output resistance of the 7I96S drivers in half. In this case, suggested wiring is PUL+, DIR+ to 5VP then PUL- to STEP- and DIR- to DIR-
]

The wiring you have corrected matches the above manual instructions. Might I have the following questions, please:

1. This CL57T drive has "higher than normal input current requirements"?

2. This is a single ended wiring?

3. To connect CL57T's PUL+ and DIR+ to 7I96S' +5V, can I join the two wires from PUL+ and DIR+ and screw the single end to 7I96S' +5V?

Thank you.

LinuxCNC 2.9.4 Released

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Over the weekend Andy released linuxcnc 2.9.4
To upgrade an existing bookworm release running version 2.9 all you need to do is to type
sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
And go and have a cup of coffee

The ISO has also been upgraded for new installs on Intel X64 hardware. Grab it from the LinuxCNC downloads page.

The raspberry pi has not been upgraded but I've roped in Cornholio to help build images for release via linuxCNC repository so stay tuned.

Please join me in thanking Andy for his tireless work

NC means no connection, so don't connect the ENA pins.

Also make sure that the CL57 is set for 5V inputs

Thank you PWC.

New plan
Discard existing control motherboard dead.
Purchased new mesa 7l96s. Already have a Rasberry pi 4.
Remove all lathe components to clean Hardened and crusty chips.

That is a very good plan! :)

Look under /boot there should be a folder called broadcom, or something and config.txt will be there.
The image is not a Raspbian OS based one but based on plain Debian but with a suitable kernel.

How did you enable SPI? I didn't find it in "sudo menu-confg" and "sudo raspi-config" command not found.

I actually forgot that logging in as root didn't put me in the actual root directory.
...
So I can find the joomla and kunena  directories
...

That sounds like a good basis to get an overview and check what is feasible, offers of support have come: forum.linuxcnc.org/36-using-this-forum-q...ourse?start=0#263279

@JT: You wrote in another post that you don't want to destroy the forum itself, which I think is a good idea ;-).

Would it perhaps be possible to run a second forum in parallel (for a short time) and then try to copy the current forum into it (posts, images, ...) and then, if it works, switch over?

Unfortunately I'm not familiar with this either :-( But personally I would welcome it if the state of the art would work again.
