looks like the cause of the crash, possibly a GUI bug

hello ,
your video explains very well the basic connections and it's very welcome because at the beginning it's not easy to understand everything. I've just bought a 7i96s to replace my SV2 card (parallel port) mainly to add position feedback for my axes (encoders). The middle and end of travel connections for my 5 axes are operational and work very well with a Raspberry pi4. Where I'm having a lot of trouble is with the connections and signals from my encoder.
I want to connect the position feedback of my B axis to the only encoder port on the board.
My encoder is type A+,B+,0V,5Vdc . But I don't understand the documentation for the Mesa 7i96s board with TX/RX 422/485 ... I have no signal feedback in the halmeter.

Could you please guide me to the right connections and signals for my configuration? If attached the configuration of my B axis in my . Hal

What/Where is this? We cannot reproduce this bug building the 2.9 branch of the linuxcnc github repo we can reproduce this only in master.

You can just turn the spindle by hand to check encoder counting,
direction, and scale (one forward turn should advance the encoder
position by 1.00)

Your hal/ini examples do not include the needed PID component/
connections/constants. Also note the the encoder feedback must come
from the -rpm pin as the plain encoder velocity will be in RPS.

Price is $2. (CAD) ($1.94 for shipping + 6 cents for the card itself)
International shipping extra.

The card works perfectly but it is not power efficient.
(It uses an LM7805 voltage regulator that wastes >7/12 of the power as heat)

i got it to spin now open loop but when i tried to add a encoder with closed loop control but when i try to get it to go a speed it goes full speed like it thinks that it doesnt move since when i write m3 s0 i doesnt do anything. how would i test to se if the encoder mesa card is receiving the encoder pulses?

Hello, so this same problem occurs on on two different machines. One is an old core 2 duo pc + mesa 7i96 with monitor, keyboard, mouse. The other one is a raspberry pi 4 + 7i96s with a vnc connection (no monitor, no mouse, no keyboard) running a plasma machine.

Randomly the program crashes when navigating the gmocappy gui. it happens while jogging in small increments, when switching to program mode, when searching for a gcode file. I'd say the raspberry crashes more often than the pc. When i manage to start a gcode file, even if it is hours long, it is stable.

i attached a report below, this time the machine was homed and the y axis was moved in small increments when it crashed.

Update: machines runs again, on Debian 12 with Linuxcnc 2.9.3.

Now something that might be interesting for anyone who had similar problems like me, so that e.g. wheezy worked perfectly (almost out of the box, just some typical bios settings that had to be turned off like power savings etc.), but huge problems on Debian 12.
I had to use different RAMs and set up the DDRam settings correctly like DRAM Frequency (AUTO didnt worked), and also the CPU settings like "AMD Turbo CORE technology: ENABLED" which i thought should be turned off. I played around for at least 2 hours. I used 4 x 2gb RAMs - all of the same type, but i could not use 1333Mhz as was written on the RAMs, but i went up from 800mhz to if i remember correctly 1100mhz.

I didnt run a program for long, but it looks like it works perfectly fine. When i run a code and open GLXgears then i get a latency message in Linuxcnc, but the machines works well, or at least i didnt noticed any strange behavior.
Latency:
Base Thread Max interval: about 30.000 - 32.000
Max Jitter: Below 10.000
(tested with youtube on and glxgears, but not for a long time)

Oh and before i forget:
The whole system was so slow, because i had that one 4GB ram mounted without the other 4GB ram of that pair (8GB), because it seems to be broken, as i mentioned earlier. After inserting other rams and use AUTO "DRAM Timing confirgurations" the system was running very good.
Tomorrow i will setup onedrive and do some milling tests in the coming days.

2 winters later and I've finally managed to get the panel finished. Some minor details are still missing, but it's enough to work properly.
I got the frame milled and anodized for me, as my CNC mill is too small for some parts and I don't have the tools to anodize them anyway.

The main part is the 22" touchscreen display. On the bottom part there are 3 dedicated buttons for spindle left/stop/right and 2 rotary encoders for feed and spindle overrides.
Also22 function keys that can be mapped to any function via HAL_INPUT. They also have a WS2812 LED each, so they can be illuminated in every RGB color individually. The LED control will be done via the Serial Port and a Python script.
The joints between the display and the keyboard allow for preferred adjustment.

I'm pretty happy on how it turned out, it really makes working with the Weiler a lot more enjoyable. The reworked GUI is still in progress, but that will take some more time as I have more important projects going on right now.

Thank you all. I think I'll try to resurect what I have and stick with the present version. It works.
Should I have to get a new computer (decent used one) will the 7I76 board allow me to connect the drivers directly to it or do I need another board?

You can keep tabs on how much margin you have
by looking at the tmax values after long LinuxCNC
uptimes. My guess is that it's unlikely you will see
the error again.

the 7i64 is connected to the 7i77 through tb6 i believe it is. They need to make the printing bigger for us old guys.

The 7I64 could be connected to either the 7I76E or 7I77

(it would be channel 1 on the 7I76E or channel 4 on the 7I77)
