www.suse.com/security/cve/CVE-2023-52993.html says this is a Linux kernel vunerability. Might the latest version of linuxCNC fix this?

I think you are measuring the enable pins (1,2) rather than the analog outputs
(3,4)

I use stepper online dm542t and dm556 have over 50 of them in operation on machines running at least 8 hours a day and have never had any issues with them. I have never measured the current to see if they are getting 3 amps but I will say they are stronger than any of the tb6600 boards I've seen.

I have disconnected all drives and measured directly on the pins. (Indicated with the red dots on the image)

It doesn't matter what I set hm2_7i94.0.7i77.0.1.analogout0 to, the value stays 0V, or about 0.3V when hm2_7i94.0.7i77.0.1.analogena is enabled.

Any hoo, I was wondering about shift registers, in that should I use hardware means to clear all outputs? I haven't had a lot to do with them but I understand that the output shift registers can have undefined states at startup and possibly turn on randomly. For the most part probably not an issue but if you are using them for things that shouldn't turn on at startup, tool release, turret clamp, Z Axis brake, spindle gearbox and so on. My friend (Babinda01 on here) has mentioned using a simple resistor/cap combination connected to the shift register clear pin to reset the output registers at power up, which sounds like a good idea instead of burning up a pin from the FPGA.

Also just checking that I can assign ModBus pins for output for a second FPGA and also additional ModBus pins for, well normal Modbus things? My understanding is the ModBus to the second FPGA is just for doing that, and not for adding traditional ModBus devices, so I should design a second "standard" Modbus connection.

Looks like if you buy a Tb 6600 you really don’t know what you get.
I had bought another Tb 6600 and tested it.
Stepper motor much noisier with that new one with the same micro stepping. Outside they look the same but the new ones plastic cover. Last week I cut a large sine and one of the steppers stopped moving so. Lots of material waisted.

So I did run the program again with the torch off same happens at the same place. So I added two 80 mm fans to cool the drivers
Now I can run the programs three times in a row and everything runs fine. So tomorrow I will try to cut the sign. I run them on 2.5 amps . The one for the Z axis runs on 1.5 amps. So I can affirm they are probably reliable for up to 1.5 amps so I am looking for a replacement.

I am considering a Chinese Dm556 or a TMC 2160 How much can they handle in reality?

Does anyone on this Forum use them can they handle 3Amps in reality?

Follows your advice, I have bought the JayCar EMI Filter.

I bought six Earth terminals, while I need only three... The gentleman at the store was not able to to work out that the we don't need bus bar connector to join them, since the DIN rail acts as conductor since the Earth block clamps are metal:

They also have DIN Rail fuse holder, too.

I have also last week received a 24VDC contactor from Tropac as you advised. It is a 3-phase one, as you have anticipated.

I have since learned how to wire it, both switching a router (I used a Dremel grinder) and using the NO terminals to turn on an LED with a 9V battery when coil is turned on.

This is only with the contactor by itself. I have "worked out" how to wire it to the Mesa 7I96S -- but I don't know if it is correct yet.

In the process of learning the contactor, I have also learned that some single-phase power tool can't be switched via a contactor, such as this Milwaukee AGV 15-125-XE angle grinder: www.milwaukeetool.com.au/power-tools/met...ers/AGV15-125XE.html, because of start up protection, its manual states:

When switched on, the machine will not start up after voltage breakdown. To continue working, switch the machine off and then on again.

So to be able to switch from the Mesa 7I96S, the wood router must not have this protection.

2.10 or 2.9 will work but you need a recent build.

Older versions of LinuxCNC require LAPIC to run, a quick way to check is by editing the GRUB line at boot by adding LAPIC after nosplash.

1- test with no wiring on analog outs
2- analog out and in on drives have polarity, check if correct.
3- 0.3V might be induced from other equipment while measuring, so try setting analog out to 5 or 10V, with drives disconnected or disabled
