CNC Machine EMI Interference prevention

Category: CNC Machines

Hello,

I am busy converting my Bridgeport Series 1 Interact to LinuxCNC over ethercat. I have a Delta VFD11AMS21ANSAA which can be controlled via and ethernet port (Not sure how hard its going to be to get it working on LinuxCNC)

But as this is my first CNC machine build, what can I do to prevent back EMI and cross talk between the VFD and the other components like the PC, Servo drives and Beckhoff IO units.

Should the VFD be in a separate Cabinet?
Do I need special Ethernet cables or will normal ones Cat 5e work?

Any tips are appreciated.

AX58100

Category: EtherCAT

Unfortunately my Herocut plasma gives full arc voltage. I also have a THCAD 300 card to interface with.
It's a possibility what you say. Anyone wishing to give it a go have all the schematics and pcb layouts
as a starter, and all software needed to deliver values over EtherCAT on github.

You know the path isn't always that straight when I develop things. I started with the LAN9252 and it is more or less coincidental that I went with the Ax58100. And you are right, they are used as gateways. In the setup with a MCU I don't really see a difference, can go with any of the two. They are both available on aliexpress and cost about the same. I have gone back to the LAN9252.

For the plasma build, my initial thoughts with EaserCAT-3000 card and the Ax58100 was to use existing stepper motor drivers and have the card do pulse/dir. While that now works, I have skipped that path and are now going to use ECT60 Ethercat stepper motor drives. My own cards will be used for Digital IO (limit switches, float switch, break-away switch, torch on), and for reading the THCAD-300.

Here is the reader for THCAD. A stripped version of the EaserCAT-3000, with LAN9252. The MCU reads PWM frequency on one pin. Could definitely use a smaller MCU, but it is also easy to reuse what I know works.

Digital IO. This card does use the DIO of the LAN9252 directly, no MCU.

I find that the documentation for the Ax58100 is lacking for the special functions, like stepper motor driver. There is a reference application supplied that uses TwinCAT to drive a stepper motor. I guess one could try to understand how all that works, but I haven't. And that is all info I know of.

Hello,
As shown in previous message...
Recently, I wholly upgrade my Linuxcnc the the lastest version, after putting my orignal config files to the new Linuxcnc system, when Gmoccapy screen opens, all the original settings disappeared, what's the problem, how can it be resoved?

i was looking at it ,on another post you have told about velocity mode.

Must say , pins vs io vs channel =chinese=confusing , good god !
Back to pncconf ,got P1(09) +P2(04) both on their respective
pin 17 , oops , niet, no go,
it wont generate 2 charge pump ,
let's edit hal , stepgen.09 to .04 ,
success !!! charge pump + xyz movement !

But you've helped more then Ai did PCW ..
old sl bob got partial opensource reviving ,
7i92_slpc2x2d.bit file work .
That's it for today , pid/velocity setting are to setup
correctly + soft limit + eventualy limit switches and
second charge pump + later may i test encoder with steppers
(which always been speed limiting & finicky to use )
+ arm64 sbc test.

Thanks & cheers PCW

Can't use Pendant (7i73) after Homed

Category: Gmoccapy

Hi
Before yesterday I can use Pendant for jog XYZ and x1 x10 x100 step excellent to work (7i73 MESA)
I have a problem yesterday I use GMOCCAPY  start up good and "before" home machine I can use pendant for jog .
After Home XYZ done screen DRO will change green color and then I can't use pendant, If want for pendant I will click Icon UNHOME it's will back to use pendanr again , WHY ?
I'm not sure this problem come from I use sudo apt update and upgrade yesterday .

I try check After HOMED , Open halshow and try use pendant handwheel roller Encoder can show number change with wheel rotation.
I try use knob select X Y Z axis its show select active LED yellow and correct.
Have any Idea for me check ?

Thank you,

7i96S Basic Switch Wiring confirmation

Category: Basic Configuration

Hi all, I know this has been aske before, however, there does not appear to be a simple visual on it. So thought I would confirm.

I am trying to set up limit switches. I would like to first test config on single switch. I believe that the best way is to wire a 24V power Supply +ve to the switch, then switch to the boards input Common. Then Wire 24V -ve to Input #. (Ref: Image attached.) Is this correct or should it be switch interrupting -ve side pathway?

I believe that once tested as confirmed I can run a single series based set of switches to use for X, Y and Z limit switches. Correct?

Thanks all.

It seems indeed that you have to enable the one that you need, so it's better to put back the original dit and download the dtbo source from:
raw.githubusercontent.com/armbian/build/...3399-spi-spidev.dtso

First remove the spi overlays from armbianEnv.txt
Check which spi goes to the gpio pins and isn't in use by anything else and recompile/install with: sudo armbian-add-overlay rockchip-rk3399-spi-spidev.dtso

For the slow graphics you could try to see if the GPU irq is on a cpu with many other interrupts and move to a less busy CPU: cat /proc/interrupts

50us should still be okay I think, although I'm not sure how this influences the spi connection, likely that it will need a more optimized driver

That will not work, you must configure stepgen 4 as a charge-pump
(you cannot generate a 12 KHZ signal with an output bit)

pncconf also knows how to setup a stepgen as
a charge-pump

Ok ,within pncconf , nice , missed that one .

i was reading a post , you did suggest velocity mode as an option .

May i disable charge pump on both BOB ,they got jumpers , test config as is,
just curious , than back to pncconf .

Thanks

I would generate a configuration with pncconf.
pncconf also knows how to setup a stepgen as
a charge-pump
