Check under the gantry, one side has side bearings, the other does not, so the side with side bearings - use a laser to get properly straight.
The other side can be 1-2mm off and still very usable as the THC will compensate that easily.
Mind the part where two rails touch, try to get those as leveled as possible, when gantry moves over them, there should be no noticeable "jump".

No need for all that, just add a resistor to THCAD input to raise the required current for triggering.
What voltage is ohmic using?

It has none of what you asked, but it is very usable, Inkscape.
Open source, very easy to use, can do some nesting by using groups of ojects and layers, does leadin/leadout somehow, uses gcodetools extension included, so can be modified to your hearts content.
I just modified it to export the plasmac.cut.feed-rate, so i can use the material settings in PlasmaC.

Pretty cool. I assume that there is no gateway IC that woul parse the ethercat messages but the chip itself is pretty cool.
I assume that you can still use the pwm, encoder etc features as a "standalone".
Where did you get the chip and how much did you pay for it?

Open a terminal and start python3 then import distro and then run distro.id() and let me know what it returns.

Okay, cool! Let me know in case you need anything from me. I have had a look at the relevant code and might also be able to troubleshoot myself, but it would be a quite steep learning curve.

Best cam software to use for plasma cutting

Category: CAD CAM

What's the best cam software to use for plasma cutting? I've tried fusion 360 and found it to unstable and not really geared towards plasma cutting. I like sheet cam I really do but I find it's missing some features. I don't know if it would be possible to easily add these features or if there's a open source option or a reasonably cheap cam program I can purchase (i cant spend 10 grand a year on a software). I would really like a program that supports. Auto nesting, skeleton cutting, tip up avoidance, wiggle or custom lead in would be sweet. Setting slats on the spoil board so you can see where your slats are positioned when nesting. A plate inventory system and cut time estimator / price calculator would be great but I can deal without it. Is there any options for a program like this or a program that is open source enough to modify your own scripts to add features like this? How is hypertherm pronest is it worth the money?

So it turned out the ohmic sensing was not so reliable.
while at 25 mm above it started to cut. (False ohmic on when torch is wet)
My machine is especially sensitive to that.
I use a hand torch on a steel mounting.
Distance from mounting to shield is about 3mm.

so I came up with this experiment.

I made a break out board.
with a voltage divider.

6 30k resistors in parallel so that is 5k ohm.
on the other side 5 5k Ohm resistors in parallel so that is 1k ohm

So I tested with a multimeter when torch is in contact with the negative of the power supply I get 5volt.
when I put a wet paper in between I get 4.2 volt.  Looks like this helps to get a solid difference between wet contact and real metal to metal contact.

With so many resistors in parallel. I don’t think torch voltage will overload then.

is it safe to use this kind of  voltage divider. On my Thad.  I was wondering if it would be wise to   add some diodes for safety. Since torch voltage is opposite polarity?

Mesact 2 Setup

Hi,

After a new install I have the following setup (but still problems loading mesact)

uname -a
Linux debcnc 6.1.0-26-rt-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_RT Debian 6.1.112-1 (2024-09-30) x86_64 GNU/Linux

when I run (from the terminal)
mesact
I get the error dialog box
Debian is required to run the Mesa Configuration Tool

NO application window opens as I was expecting

The terminal window freezes, so I need to Kill the window to exit the state

The linuxmint information window shows the following:
