Firmware Request for 7i92 – Plasma CNC Build

Category: Driver Boards

A picture or link to the actual breakout board you have would be helpful.

As tommylight noted, the common "5 Axis CNC" breakout has 12 outputs
and 5 inputs and this is fixed by the breakout board hardware.

Any stepgen or encoder that is not in use, it's pins can be used as IO, so if you just load
loadrt num_stepgens = 4
that will enable 4 stepgens on the first port (no idea exactly if P1 or P2) and the rest of the 26 pins can be used freely as inputs or as outputs.
Use
mesaflash --card_name --IP --readhmid
replace name and IP with what you have and check the resulting pin assignment so you can decide how many stepgens and encoders you need and what pins they use, from that you know what pin numbers remain for inputs and outputs.
BUT, since you are using BOB's, you will be limited to what the BOB uses as inputs ( 10 in total for encoders and switches) and 24 as outputs.

Yes, I'm using the common 5-axis BOBs from china, one on each port (P1 and P2).
That said, I don’t actually need all 10 StepGen channels. My machine only uses 4 axes, so I’m hoping to free up many of the StepGen-related I/O pins and use them as general-purpose I/Os instead.

Also, since the 7i92 headers are mirrored (P1 and P2), both BOBs give access to the same type of GPIO pins. I’m hoping to take advantage of that symmetry and assign more pins for inputs (e.g., limit switches, ArcOK, ohmic probe, thc UP /down etc.), and just a few for outputs (torch on/off, float switch reset, laser etc.).

Ideally, I'd like a bitfile that allows:

At least 10 inputs and 5 outputs for general machine control

Fewer StepGen channels (maybe 4 or 5 max)

If a bitfile like that exists — or if modifying an existing one is straightforward — I’d really appreciate the guidance.

Thanks again for your help!

Best regards,

Thank you all for the responses. The VFD GA500 is already installed in the machine and I don’t have it here. I have an LS600 on my work desk which I am using for the tests. I will try to send you the information you are requesting as soon as possible.

PCW !. Thank you for coming back! From the heart!

I advance the board that I am using in the TB4 connector, I believe, as PCW explains, that I am not supplying the 10vcc. I am going to check the LS600.

There is no tension on pins (1-2) (1-3) of the TB4

That means no Spindle output is possible.

The 7I76/7I76E/7I76EU do not supply the 10V.
The spindle output on these cards works as a
potentiometer. Typically the 10V is supplied by
the VFD.

7i76E Spindle configuration

Category: PnCConf Wizard

The OP was supplied with a config as requested for 4axis and a spindle, to 24k I think, by PCW. Even with is he could not get an output, taking this into account PncCONF is not the issue.
If the OP could be so kind as to supply a picture of the wiring of the actual spindle connector and a diagram as well of how he wired it I think that would be quite helpful. This is the second time I have made this request.
To OP seems to have missed or ignored the bit about PWM not being involved in configuring the spindle.
Just making a guess I suspect that spindle + and spindle - are not being supplied with an isolated voltage. If this is the case spindle out with not have a voltage that is in line with the selected spindle speed.
Wiring of the opto isolated outputs can be tackled later.
To reiterate the OP has a config supplied by PCW, which we can take as being gospel and if the board is wired correctly will work.
For testing I would not have the spindle connected, I would just be monitoring the spindle output with a multimeter referenced to spindle - .

This is actually how I went setting up my spindle, but using a smart serial board as I required the servo driver to be some distance from my 7i76 and did not want a small analogue voltage being transmitted over a long cable. Paranoia may have had been high that day.

So, as a user, I wonder why the PncConf Wizard application did not provide me with the TB4 configuration. And that is my problem to solve.

Try setting Locale to UTF-8, google how to do that on Debian.
That is almost always a locale issue and/or language issue, so for future reference you can boot from USB with LinuxCNC and use Live session to create a PncConf config while in English language, and also test the machine if it is attached to that PC, all from a Live session, but do not forget to save/copy that config to the internal hard drive/SSD/NVME. Then you can reboot and use the existing installation in your language to run that config.

Homing is not working

Category: HAL

But in reply to someone saying my home switch wasn't connected, it was. And I don't see where my mesa inputs are wack. What is interesting is that in my new config the homing works and the hal and ini files are almost identical to the old config. So that is odd. But any-who problem fixed.

Firmware Request for 7i92 – Plasma CNC Build

For a 7I92:

7i92_5ABOBx2D.bit

for a 7I92T:

7i92t_5abobx2d.bin

Would be closest If you are using the common "Mach 5 Axis" Sainsmart parallel port BOB

Note that the inputs of the common 5 Axis breakouts are not really suitable for encoder use
as they are quite slow and require 12 V signals.

Thank you, they were messed up. We ended up making a new config and the homing now works. We had skipped a section in pnnconfig that enabled homing. It is unclear in the documentation.

thank you for your words, I am very sorry about Mr. PCW, I respect him and I appreciate him.

I want you to be able to put yourself in my shoes as a LinuxCNC user. I have an application (pcconf) that I have used without problems in previous versions, which is not working today. I create a thread in this forum seeking help because my ability is not enough to solve the problem, I receive help and instructions to resolve it, I try to do what is requested as best as I can, I send videos, images, explain, answer more than once what I am being asked, it is not a bad attitude, it is my lack of ability that cannot satisfy those who are helping me and it is respectable that they eventually reach their limit, but there was no bad intention!!.

I need to control a VFD with the ACM-AVI signals + 10VCC (YASKAWA GA500) The Pncconf wizard should have given me the TB4 configuration when I selected 7i76e, but it didn't. that is the problem !!

There is no tension on pins (1-2) (1-3) of the TB4

I was able to manually program turning on-off-enabling, but when I wanted to program the hal pwm component and assign it to spindle out, it did not allow me.

So, as a user, I wonder why the PncConf Wizard application did not provide me with the TB4 configuration. And that is my problem to solve.
I know that the problem is overwhelming me, I just need to solve it because I have been an intensive user of linuxcnc since 2008, I use it every day of my life since then, I have learned a lot but not everything and I continue learning.

thank you for your time, I greatly appreciate it

Remora - Rpi Software Stepping Using External Microcontroller via SPI

Category: Computers and Hardware

I would suggest setting up a configuration for 4 joints X Y Y Z. You should not be pointing multiple step generators at the same frequency command or command feedback.

Take a look at this 5 joint config where there are two joints assigned to the Z axis. You can do the same for your dual Y axes.
