logout is just " exit " correct

and then the log in is automatic

i tried exit,  and it shuts down the terminal window,
when i open the terminal window back up ,  i think i am logged in automatically

and i tried the stty line again ,  no luck.
 i power cycled and still no luk

Does there have to be live activity on the serial port ??? for this to work?

Remora - Can't get it out of estop....

Category: Computers and Hardware

oh....that is why. Thanks for the answer. You may consider putting something in the documentation to flag this so that others don't try this path. I need to regroup and figure out the next cheapest HW to work with the Rpi5. Do you think the STM based boards will be around for awhile? I was hoping to go Remora but I have to think about that parallel port board that someone makes for the Rpis.

getting started , latency and breakout board questions

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Good afternoon Tommylight thanks, I tried something pretty similar to this with out the < > .

That was several tries back

i just tried it and i added the < > with my username in the middle of the<> and i got a
bash: syntax error near unexpected token 'newline'

next i tried without the < > and i got asked for my password,       that is good correct?

i made a typo next, trying the stty -F /dev/ttyS0

and on the 2nd try with the stty i got permission denied again.

if i make a typo do i lose my root access? and need to start over with dialout line ?

i tried the whole process starting with the  " ls " again,  no typos and still permission denied

Since the command line has my name twice that means i am logged in correct?   does that mean  i am logged in a both user and admin?

ls -l /dev/tty*
then
sudo usermod -a -G dialout <username>
replace "username" with your actual username on that pc

How to fix "Queue is not empty after probing"

A lot of things could go wrong there; why not check the "obvious error" ```[tm]``` first?
Probably just a race condition?
[...]

if (settings->probe_flag) {
    int queue_empty = 0;
    int retry = 0;
    static int probe_count = 0;

    probe_count++;

    while ((queue_empty = GET_EXTERNAL_QUEUE_EMPTY()) == 0 && retry < 100) {
        esleep(0.010);
        retry++;
    }

    if (retry > 0) {
        logDebug("probe #%d: waited %dms for empty queue (state: %d)",
                probe_count, retry*10, queue_empty);
    }

    CHKS((queue_empty == 0),
         "NCE_QUEUE_IS_NOT_EMPTY_AFTER_PROBING (probe #%d after %dms)",
         probe_count, retry*10);

[...]

Out testing,

getting started , latency and breakout board questions

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Good afternoon I have a question,   It is both linuxCnc, and just Linux.
      First   I have been running LinuxCnc from a  Startup Boot thumbdrive.    I had a friend help with the original Linux install, and LinuxCnc install on this computer  Lenovo intel g73.
     At some point I think  i would like to get rid of the thumbdrive boot ,  and have this computer just run linuxCnc , or if possible Linux Debian 12, and LinuxCnc .     But for now i am pretty happy with the LinuxCnc on the thumbdrive and i have  Linux Debian 12 without the thumbdrive.

I am still learning both Linux and LinuxCnc for sure.
     I have a very old robot arm that i can run on a windows terminal .   I ASSUME i should be able to run the arm from a Linux terminal????

BUT

I can not seem to change the serial port parameters in either Linux, or LinuxCnc.
I have tried several times to change the serial port parameter with various different terminal  commands?
    I have tried
             "     stty -F /dev/ttyS0 57600 cs8 -parenb -cstopb   "     i have also tried to add " sudo" in front of the line.
i always get permission denied.
    I believe i have root access,   but maybe not.    i have tried to change my user status to  a  " ALL "   and some other things,  but no luck

I am not sure if this is a problem with my install,  or if i need a more potent permission .

I thought i was the only user on this install and i thought i have    "  ALL access"   but apparently I don't..

Shouldn't i have the same access in linux and LinuxCnc

i did mange a command that listed all my permissions and i am pretty sure i have at least admin level

how can i get permanent root access

thanks

Remora - Can't get it out of estop....

Category: Computers and Hardware

Hi Mars,

Unfortunately, there is no support for the LPC based boards with the RPi5 version of the Remora component. The LPC chips need the CS line to toggle on each byte being sent out. This would be why it's not coming out of eStop.

Also, the firmware for the LPC boards is outdated in terms of the Remora data structure.

If the NTC is in the positive side of the divider, its the equivalent
of lowering the negative side resistor value to its current value
in parallel with 11K Ohms. If it is setup this way, you could raise
the value of the negative side resistor so the parallel combination
on this new resistor and the 11K is the same as the old resistor.

Thanks for replying. The wires are about six inches in length so the communication integrity might be a problem and are separate wires, not ribbon cable. I will try experimenting with the SPI_freq to see if it makes a difference. I think my next step will be to put an oscope on the SPI lines running between the Rpi and the SKR and see what is going on. You refer to a "data payload problem"....don't know what they means.?

Hi,
I'm currently trying to get a rp2040 working with Remora over ethernet, so a very different setup. But I was in a similar case yesterday and for me it was a data payload problem, that was different in the component and in the firmware. I don't think that this is your problem, but are you sure that you have a communication between the RPi and the SKR? Also, I don't know how your SPI connection looks like, but the standard frequency is at 20MHz, which requires short wires; maybe try to add the SPI_freq=1000000 to your loadrt line in the hal file to see if at 1MHz SPI frequency there is a communication.
