Easy to solve, you are just in the wrong directory!
cd linuxcnc-dev
git pull
should work
cd linuxcnc-dev
git pull
should work

gmoccapy 0.9.8 is on its way
ver. 0.9.8
- introduced notification as gmoccapy error messaging system
- rebuild the settings page to make the message
system settings available
- new default start-up position
- changed DRO text color label to DRO background color label,
because that is what you change
- jogging with keyboard will jog full speed if SHIFT
is hold down
- <Super_L> key will delete the last message of
gmoccapy message system
- <STRG>+<SPACE> delete all gmoccapy messages at once
- switching on the machine will reset the GUI to manual mode
- the setup button is no longer a member of the
mode radiobuttons it is now a toggle button,
so pressing it twice will bring you to manual mode
- corrected add added translations for
Spanish and German prepared the files for Serbian
I will be away for a week o so, please wait for Chris to push my patch.

Hallo Chris,
I don't see any error in my code. I am just putting up a new virtual machine and test on that one.
Hope to get this solved, before getting my plane;-)
If you are not sleeping jet, I am on IRC channel!

OK Chris,
that is a problem on your system I beleave!
I just put up a complete new virtual machine, and make a new git pull. I got then gmoccapy 0.9.7.5.1 as I should.
I tested it and it works just fine.
Than I made:
git apply gmoccapy_0_9_8.patch
I got trailing whitspace warnings, 16 whitespace errors and 21 lines and whitespace errors, but alls as warnings, the patch did apply correctly.
(I have to check what this whitespace errors are to avoid them in future releases)
I start than linuxcnc and selected gmoccapy. I got 0.9.8 with all features running fine.
What should I do now?

You should sit back and enjoy your trip
Yes it was a problem on my system: a notification.pyc file still present from when I tried your program last time
I have now pushed your work to master.
Safe trip.
