And i do install the kernel and Linuxcnc at the same time, then reboot and it does work properly, Linuxcnc needs 32 more dependencies, all automatically downloaded and installed. I can do the same with two kernels i compiled last year on a big PC, but that has a bit worse latency and takes ages to boot.

It works perfectly for me on 4 laptops and 2 PC's so far, with Mint 19.1 i would get some complaints rarely but 19.2 works always.Tommy has a shortcut here on the forum but it did not work for me on other hardware.

@Rod & Tommy Thanks for the feedback. Do you think it is likely to make any difference to my problem if I install mint.
Tommy Do you have a link to install.
On another note I have ordered a pilot arc plasma with a machine torch www.thewelderswarehouse.com/Welding-Supp...s-Arc-Plasma-40.html.
With this torch parkertorchology.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/SCMP80R.pdf
I should receive it within a week.

On the "left side 2" picture there is a connector on the left bottom side with red and black wires, can you check with DVM if they are connected to the output terminals ?
that would be best place to take the THC voltage as it has some filtering and make wiring easier.
The small board with a toroidal filter looks like the torch on switch filtering, so that should also make wiring easier.

Thanks for the feedback.
Unfortunately that connector goes from the bottom board to the middle board Right_side.jpg next to the blue cap. but does not connect to the output terminals.

To close this thread off. Thanks to all the people that helped me in the building of the machine
Very short vid of it cutting 3mm photos.app.goo.gl/y1rsnzJQJUMsQhmo9
Edit: And of course a big thank you to Phil for making it possible with his PlasmaC which is now built into the latest Linuxcnc 2.8 and 2.9
