Wow the Hypertherm charts are pretty much useless from what I'm seeing with these.

That does surprise me.

Me too. With a pierce height of .150 it won't even arc to the material. I had to get it down to about .90 just to make that happen, that's first. Then, set at 40A, it pierced and cut holes (1st operation), but after that on a straight run @ 50ipm it wouldn't quite make it thru the plate. I backed it down to about 47ipm and it did make it through, although the dross is extremely heavy on it. I bumped the amperage up on the machine to 45 and it really didn't help. Gonna recheck the assembly of the torch head before cutting again, although I've changed consumables many times in the past and never had this sort of issue.

Rod...

The halscope still seems to be too zoomed in to be able to see what's going on.

Have you done some probe tests to confirm that the height is correct.

Finally got something...although it's questionable if it's usable. This is as much as I can get the thing into view in halscope. Sorry guys.

10in long cut with THC on (had to because halscope is set for it to trigger).

Edit: Phil, I also reset PID P gain to 10 where it was when we started on this road for the sake of seeing what those original conditions were like.

The plot is good but I'll let Phil guide you on the settings. Is it possible you have something reversed so Plasmac's down move is actually moving the motor up? That would do it. watch the z axis shaft movement during another cut and think about the down signals in this plot....

Ok. I just ran another cut. I monitored what the torch was actually doing as it cut. I'm using THC, a 10in single cut in the Y axis, and this particular steel is a 2ftx4ft piece of scrap that is warped. So, ideally, the THC should move the torch upward as it advances - following the bow of the steel. It physically did do that. It went down very briefly about 3in into the cut, then gradually and very slowly went up (seemed fine). Here's the plot, and I changed that one plot to voltage out as requested.

What voltage does the GUIdisplay when cutting, according to that plot it is around 15Kv

Uhhh I was watching the z axis lol. Last time I watched it's around 120ish. I'm fixing to run another one, I'll have it posted and I'll get that for you (to be sure) this time. With the 60A consumables the machine was running about 145v or so on the same material, for reference if needed.
