For initial testing, its best that you do not connect any I/O (encoders etc) to the 7I77

Is 7I77 CR1 illuminated?

What voltage do you measure at 7I77 TB1?

Are 7I77 jumpers W4 and W12 in the left hand position?

Is the 7I77 connected to the 5I25 cards P3 (DB25) connector with a IEEE1284 cable?

Not a problem, but are you actually using the parallel port?

I am still wondering why we are not seeing any active sserial pins showing in the dmesg. But I have never used a 7i77, so don't know what you would expect to see.

I have installed 2 of them (7i77) and i was wondering the same thing. Conned through all that dmesg but could not find anything wrong. The pinout in the Linuxcnc error report was a bit off.
But knowing PCW is always here, i refrain myself from commecting on things i do not have at least a certain degree of certenty, so i just read and learn.

Many many thanks PCW, andypugh and tommylight for your help, thoughts or other.

PCW asked the following: the responce
Is 7I77 CR1 illuminated? yes

What voltage do you measure at 7I77 TB1? 5 v

Are 7I77 jumpers W4 and W12 in the left hand position? yes to the left

Is the 7I77 connected to the 5I25 cards P3 (DB25) connector with a IEEE1284 cable? molded on cable IEEE1284

this is a most current (after reboot hal 121)

Now we're coockin !!!
Now you are on the right track, as it is communicating with 7i77 and finding the analog outs. It just looks like you do not have any encoder connected to encoder port 4. You can just ommit that line and move on, until you connect the encoder to that line.
Try that and report back.

hm2/hm2_5i25.0: IO Pin 003 (P3-15): Smart Serial Interface #0, pin TxData1 (Output)
hm2/hm2_5i25.0: IO Pin 004 (P3-03): Smart Serial Interface #0, pin RxData1 (Input)
hm2/hm2_5i25.0: IO Pin 005 (P3-16): Smart Serial Interface #0, pin TxData0 (Output)
hm2/hm2_5i25.0: IO Pin 006 (P3-04): Smart Serial Interface #0, pin RxData0 (Input)

shows that it should be all working now
your configuration has an error:

config string '0 out'

possibly a leftover from a a parallel port configuration

also rather than dump of all of dmesg here
Just start linuxcnc from a terminal window and post the error messages in the terminal here
