What does uname -a report back?

It's just a python program so no compiling is needed, you can just download it and make sure it's executable and run it.

John,

looking at the Stretch install I see the 7i96.Py in my home dir $local.bin. On this Mint install there is no $.bin directory, just a shared.

Since I'm looking in a hidden directory shouldn't the system create the $.bin?

The home/user/.bin in Debian is not in the path by default. Try $PATH and see if local/.bin is there. If not then do step 3 in the install instructions.

Thank you for writing the tool. It made it lots easier to get going. I now have a card which actually drives some steppers. Excellent!

I also ran into the problem the tool didn't want to start, I solved it by just starting it directly from the library dir where all its files live.

That was part of it. I had to create the file "xsessionrc" not ".xsessionrc" :pinch: That catches me every time. But it still wouldn't work.

How I got it to work was downloading the python "setuptools" then follow the install instructions verbatim. I found online some issues with Mint and pip without having setuptools. I also had to use the sudo -H switch, something about not having permissions to my own home directory. Can't say I understand, but it does work now.

And a year from now I will have completely forgotten all this.

JT just received my 7i96 card and have been attempting to install the Configuration Tool without success. I have been following your Instructions on Git Hub but continue to receive the following message:

"Collecting git+https://github.com/jethornton/7i96.git
Cloning github.com/jethornton/7i96.git to /tmp/pip-c0w096qq-build
Complete output from command python setup.py egg_info:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "<string>", line 1, in <module>
ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'setuptools'

Command "python setup.py egg_info" failed with error code 1 in /tmp/pip-c0w096qq-build/"

Can you help me?

I received very much the same error.

I had to specifically install python "SetupTools" for what ever reason. Then the 7i96 tool would download and install via the GitHub instructions.
