Clocking round the outside of a bar held in the tailstock (with your existing indicator) will work too. It's probably not worth buying a lever style gauge just for this.

ok, it didn't occur to me then, in the moment, that I can turn the existing indicator at an angle even though the pin is fixed:) thanks, I'll try

I might not have explained very well, so here is a very poor quality video.

There is too much stuff in the way on my lathe, but this setup checks that the tailstock is aligned with the actual axis of rotation of the headstock.

I understood it so that i remove this rod that holds the magnetic cube from the magnet,
and clamp it in the chuck, and then spin it around the entire bar held of the tailstock, 360°

your holder model has a conical shank, so i'm guessing that's why you didn't clamp it in the headstock chuck

I am currently in the phase of making two configurations, one for lathe mode where z will be the long axis and x will be transverse, and I need another where the names of the axes will change places, because on the transverse support I have motors that will to process wood, and the cam program I use for that always considers the Z axis as a mill and I can't modify the postprocessor.

today I gave birth to a bear..since I combined two operations in gcode, the first one that makes a hole like g17 and the second one that makes an outer contour (put in gcode G7)..however linux sees both operations as g7 so it doesn't make a round hole for me but an ellipse , divide x by 2. Is there a way to make the first operation (see the hole normally, and in the following line to read the lathe operation, with G7) not worth doing separate operations, but would like to place everything in one file? thanks

Just put a G8 in the code before the hole and a G7 after?

It's a very nice ellipse though, Why not see it as a Bob Ross happy accident?

The G8 does the job, it's a round hole now, thank you very much. Yes, I like the ellipse, maybe I'll make it for my friends, but the client is asking for a round one, to fit more alcohol:)).. but I'll have to do it in two separate operations, it's too thin and the processing is bad.. today I successfully made a small adapter for the tailstock that will hold when I do the outer contour..to be continued..
