A quick run on a buster machine with i915 graphics is still restricted to 1024x768.

Although it does show other modes in the log. Maybe I need to manually create an xorg.conf but I really don't know what I am doing...

The result of xrandr was in one of the attachments.

I have just booted to a console and tried Xorg -configure and I get:
modprobe: FATAL: module i915 not found in directory /lib/modules/4.14.148-rtai-amd64

There is a new RTAI kernel that has the Intel drivers back in that solves this. No Deb package yet. You have to build from scratch for the moment.

Really dumb question.......
Any chance of obtaining a pre-configured .config file ?

Use the Debian kernel config but apply all 4 patches at:

github.com/NTULINUX/RTAI

I think I may have a config problem, all my own fault, just need a little help, as I'm trying to help out another forum member when booting via UEFI as their board does not support legacy nor have a CSM option for booting.

OS: Linux Mint 19.2 XFCE .
Custom image created using my usual process.
Machine Lenovo T530 12GB RAM, Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3320M CPU @ 2.60GHz
Graphics set to on board Intel only
Booted via USB.
Legacy Only boot both cores started
UEFI only boot only one core started.

Screenshot when booted via UEFI no CSM.

Screen when boot via legacy.

Why do you think that you have a config problem?

What do you mean by:
Legacy Only boot both cores started
UEFI only boot only one core started.

RTAI is not meant to run with EFI. You are going to have lower latency with legacy BIOS.

Another thing to note regarding the RTAI kernel from /temp, it does not work on core2duo computers as follows:
Latency test shows 0 and 0
Linuxcnc does not start complaining about a non descript configuration error
It does boot and work properly in every other regard. Tested on Dell and HP, i can provide models if required.
The Wheezy ISO boots and works properly with RTAI 3.n.n, also the new versions of RT kernel work, dell has decent latency, HP not usable for software stepping, for Mesa it should do fine.

I have no issues with the work & time & effort put in and very much appreciate this.

If you have a look at the 2 images shown one has 2 cores (legacy) and one only has 1 core (uefi).
Apart from only initialising one core I haven't seen any issues whilst running a desktop, apart from only working with a single core.

What is the mechanism the prevents the rtai kernel from initialising 2 cores or more when booting from UEFI ?
I've seen some notes floating around regarding the .efi files not being in the correct place, but checking the image that is on the USB stick everything appears to be in place.

Could this be an issue for users that have a modern MB, such as those with Gemini Lake or later, as Intel has decreed from on High that UEFI boot is the only option, as intel wants legacy boot a thing of the past by 2020 will this be something that will be discussed in these forums later during the year ? This is the situation facing fellow forum member cncbeagle. Or is it a case of tough luck you have to use RT_PREEMPT ?

That's why I was asking for a working config, even with the new git I still had to enable support for the Intel GPUs.
