Downloading right now.linuxcnc.org/temp/2.8_test4.iso
(Installs Buster and a buildbot version of LinuxCNC 2.8)
This is 99% of what the official 2.8 release will be, so feedback appreciated.
Note that the QTVCP configs need extra dependencies, this will be fixed in the final release.

The LinuxCNC ISO will be set up to not ask (it is pre-seeded to blank in the config)

I installed Buster on two computers, never got asked to set a root password, but Wheezy and Stretch did ask for it so i just left it blank and it always worked.

That's weird. And frankly I don't know what I can do about that, as this is only a slightly-tweaked standard Debian installer.

Had such issues multiple times before with Debian, from wheezy and up.That's weird. And frankly I don't know what I can do about that, as this is only a slightly-tweaked standard Debian installer.

I have installed the test ISO on a Vmware VM and also a bare metal machine and it worked fine.
On the bare metal I uninstalled LinuxCNC the changed the repo to the Buildbot then installed LinuxCNC again. All the sims I tried worked including some Qtvcp ones.
The only minor issue I found was that I needed to enter my WiFi details after the first boot as they weren't saved.

I used Ethcher to make the USB stick.
Live install works as expected and can ping my Naz from it.
Graphical install hung at configure network . about 3 mins in
Install hung at configure network . about 3 mins in
Then I tried unplugging the network cable then it let me carry on when it got to the DHCP stuff .
I re-plugged the network cable and it all went fine and installed completely
Edit: It does not recognise my usb dongle that has worked on all previous installs
And things like screen shot seem to be missing. Also I did not see an option for auto login

Tested with another USB stick, everything works properly and does not ask for root password.
