Yes, Pi400 remains a problem. (I have one)
But the Pi400 _probably_ isn't a good CNC controller candidate?

Today test with brand new pi 400 using :
www.linuxcnc.org/temp/image_2021-01-20-linuxcnc-pi4-3G.zip.

The LinuxCNC docs now point at a (renamed) version of the 3G limited image, with warnings that it is known to not work on all variants.

andypugh, according to my latest test (see my previous post), the www.linuxcnc.org/temp/image_2021-01-20-linuxcnc-pi4-3G.zip does work on Pi 8GB. Wlan and USB are ok.

There might be a fix in the kernel discussed here:

There is a downloadable kernel image deb here:

EDIT: Apologies for the redundant post, the 2.8.1 image works for me. linuxcnc.org/downloads/ still only shows 2.8.0 which is where the confusion occured. I found the 2.8.1 image in the end at linuxcnc.org/docs/2.8/html/getting-start...tml#_normal_download

it gets you an image that has usb and wifi
but has memory limited to 3078 in config-rt.txt.
so
there is no fix for the usb wifi memory problem
there is a work-around for the usb and wifi problem,
and that 'fix' requires limiting memory on 4 and 8 gig Pi's,
I followed both threads end to end hoping for better..
But, better does not exist yet ( 15apr2021 )
