The problem with the RTAI kernels is that they are stuck at v5 and they don't have such good hardware support as the preempt-rt kernels. It is also possible that there is a problem with the 5.4.290 kernel as mentioned here:https://forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc/53163-new-and-working-rtai-debs-for-2-9?start=60
would that be it?

Possibly, though I would need to apply for access as I can't currently view them.

Is this what you were looking for? Were you able to download it after I checked the Google sharing option?

It's a shame I don't have another CPU at the moment to test with. I carefully checked that when configuring a machine in the Step Config WizardYes, it works now, thank you.
I can test the xyz axes correctly, the motors rotate, I have a latency of 25000 with YouTube and 9 glxgears. I'm hoping they find a solution. I'll leave a hard drive with 2.92 preempt rt while I do my tasks, but without giving up on having Debian 13, which I really liked.

Thanks for keeping those, I have now uploaded them to the LinuxCNC repository and I have re-issued the 2.9.8 LinuxCNC RTAI package bases on that kernel.I saved some installation files; I meant to delete them, but because they contained important information, they remained.
Please try installing linux-image-5.4.279-rtai, booting from that kernel, them removing linux-image-5.4.290-rtai and rtai-modules-5.4.290
Then install rtai-modules-5.4.279 and reinstall linuxcnc (should still be v2.9.8).

The Kernel Headers are not available for download. Is it necessary, or can I use the one I have here?
