Pulling out my hair trying to set up a spindle on 7i96

Category: Basic Configuration

Aaahhh thank you. I got a bit nervous after opening the firmware folder and seeing so many different versions. I will try as soon as I get to work Monday and report back.
Thanks again

Pulling out my hair trying to set up a spindle on 7i96

Category: Basic Configuration

Yeah, I wanted the S version, but they were out of stock, so I jumped on what was available. I’ve been trying to get ahold of a Mesa card for a while, but with the chip shortage everything was out of stock. I’ve seen people driving analog spindles with the PWM output from the 4th motor driver through a converter, it’s definitely doable. I’m just not too sure about the software side of things.

Real-time kerel not detected on patched 6.12

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

For Raspberry I think following this guide should help: github.com/by/RT-Kernel

Only after git clone, download this patch:
forum.linuxcnc.org/media/kunena/attachme...ernel-realtime.patch
Then enter the Linux folder and enter: git apply ../sys-kernel-realtime.patch
After make menuconfig make sure that these are also selected:

4th axis build - Can I use Mitsubishi Servo Motor HF-SP102 (1kw) via SSCNET-III

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thx Aciera, thx re the driver recommendation. Also I didn't know about the encoder delay kinda important, as I would like it to be accurate for longer machining runs I'll look into adding an external encoder as you suggest.

4th axis build - Can I use Mitsubishi Servo Motor HF-SP102 (1kw) via SSCNET-III

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Thx Spumco,
You're right I could use the 10v but I don't think this will give good positioning accuracy, would be fine if I were using it in a lathe like situation.
I've found another servo driver which has step dir pulses, its their A series of servos (MR-J3-100A or MR-J4-100A),k the B series seems to be SSCNET series. I might try and chase down one of those.

I assume you posted some info on your 4th axis build so I'll do some reading up on the homing.

XHC WHB04B Photos of the PCB

Category: Computers and Hardware

Hi.
Some time ago I took the photos of the PCB inside the wireless version of XHC WHB04B and then promptly forgot about them.
In hopes someone can make a good use of them in the future I'm gonna post them on the forum.
Unfortunately can't upload them all to the forum cause even at half the size they are to large, nor can I link them all in here so you'll have to follow the URL to view them on imgur. Sorry.

All the pictures at: imgur.com/a/xhc-whb04b-photos-of-pcbs-wNkBjyu

Cheers,
Bushman

Ahh, yes I see that now. There are a couple of procedures in tkfbox.tcl that overwrite the button text.
The only correct way I see to do it would be to roll your own dialog box.
There is an ugly workaround by running the below code in the user_live_update method of the user command file. You would restore bigfileopen.tcl back to the original.
def user_live_update():
    if root_window.tk.eval('winfo exists .__tk_filedialog') == '1':
        open = '\n   Open   \n'
        cancel = '\nCancel\n'
        root_window.tk.eval(f'.__tk_filedialog.contents.f2.ok configure -text {{{open}}}')
        root_window.tk.eval(f'.__tk_filedialog.contents.f2.cancel configure -text {{{cancel}}}')

It is really ugly...

Everlast supercut 50 wiring

Category: Plasma & Laser

I am attempting to connect a THCAD 10 to a Everlast supercut 50. It does not have any CNC connections. It is a HF machine and I was told I needed to connect to the DC plasma supply before the HF coil. I am looking for pictures or a wiring diagram for this machine. I can not find anything.

Motherboard won’t even post to bios.

Did you try resetting the BIOS?

Cf card was empty.

Use a Linux PC, install Qphotorec ... or just download the Caine ISO and boot from USB, use QtPhotoRec to recover data from the CF

pncconf Clearpath SDSK settings

"Help" is a strong word for what's happening here.

You seem to be getting frustrated.  Maybe I can help.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your situation is that you have a Mesa 7i96s and Clearpath SDSK motors.  You want to:

  • Set some rational values for max velocity and accel
  • Connect the HLFB pins to the 7i96s
  • Make LCNC do something with the HLFB signals

    Have I got it right?

Yes, and thank you for engaging.

Those points are just what are directly in front of me, right now. It's mostly because I am at the pncconf stage, and there isn't a selection for setting the pins for drive fault there. I am not hung up on moving on, as long as I know where I need to set this function. I have LinuxCNC forum people telling me they have no idea how Clearpath HLFB works and Teknic saying they have no idea how LinuxCNC works, and here I am, stuck in the middle. That's why I thought maybe seeing an existing configuration would skip the middlemen and I could just copy someone else's homework.

Beyond that, I also need to know what to expect when homing the dual-Y gantry axis. There is more I'd like to learn about autosquaring too, but that's just one thing out of a long list.

Some of these features will likely not be supported by pnccconf

It seems this post gives you some options for HLFB.
www.forum.linuxcnc.org/10-advanced-confi...with-hlfb-mesa-7i76e
I think I would use servo-on and use  a charge pump which I think pncconf supports

The drive error is connected to
joint.N.amp-fault-in
ref: linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/man/man9/m....9.html#JOINT%20PINS

Squaring the gantry is dealt with when homing
linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/config/ini-homing.html
Paired joints (eg your gantry motors) will have a negative HOME_SEQUENCE of the same value
Usually you will also use a HOME_OFFSET
You can  square the gantry by editing the HOME_OFFSETS. eg  if one side is out by 2mm, the HOME_OFFSET needs be 2mm different to the other side.

that works, thanks phil.

when I say works, only the first time you open a filedialog (or multiple times within 1-2 seconds of opening axis) then it stops working.
root_window.tk.call("source","bigfileopen.tcl")
putting this line in my userlive_update makes it work only sometimes

possibly need to do a python instead having it inside of a separate tcl file?

Pulling out my hair trying to set up a spindle on 7i96

Category: Basic Configuration

You would need to use firmware that has a PWM output to drive
your PWM to analog circuit, like 7i96d_1pwm.bit.

This firmware replaces stepgen4 STEP and DIR with PWM 0
PWM/DIR

To use pncconf to set up the spindle PWM, you would also need to use
the discover option (so pncconf knows there's a PWMGEN available)

RPi 5 with 6.12 PREEMPT_RT = Using POSIX non-realtime

Interesting. So that was unmodified OS install, and then a LinuxCNC 2.93 Uspace install? It's great that that worked.

You need the 7i96S for spindle control.

You may have purchased the wrong one by mistake. I almost did that!
