Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

Thanks for the hint, already did that but haven't updated repo yet.

I noticed that following joint error happens a lot when moving with encoder wheel on nvmpg even that gcode results in much higher speeds. For now I limited jog speed to 40mm/s.

Hello,i've followed this  thread and i've got the CCAT driver installed so far, but i was realy confused i've got so many warning while compailtion, so what...
The question is how do i mount or assgin the

Beckhoff pci ethcatmaster{(08:00.0 Unassigned class [ff00]: Beckhoff GmbH Device 5000 (rev 0)) => which seem is the interface for the onboard KL-modul of the plc/ipc }

as master device to the ethercat stack?
i add a copy of my terminal log

the actual master you see is an Beckhoff CX2500 module and runs good so far.

might anyone has an idea

kind regards,
Christoph

Lathe sub spindle m codes

To expand a little on Aciera's response...

Starting/stopping the sub-spindle is pretty straightforward, but as I've recently found there aren't many sub-spindle lathe configurations posted on the forum (or other places), so setting one up isn't really a simple cut-paste from someone else's config.

There are a couple of considerations if you are retrofitting (or building) a sub-spindle lathe:
  • Spindle direction and main-sub synchronization
    • To make programming easier, the sub needs to rotate opposite the main when the sub is sent an M3 command.  If not, then back-working tools (for the sub) would need to all be programmed opposite than main tools.
    • This makes synchronizing the main and sub for a parting hand-off a little more complicated than just setting them both to "M3 Sxxxx".  I won't post the gory details right now, but on my DIY lathe (with sub) I created an M-code activated 'switch' that basically sends the main spindle's inverted position feedback to the sub's command input.
    • Result - when the synch M-code is activated, the main spindle is programmed and the sub is slaved to the main - both rotate at the same speed and direction until the de-activate M-code is triggered.
    • Both my main and sub motors are servos controlled via step & direction; I don't know how accurate 0-10v (or -10/+10v, or Ethercat, etc.) would be during a main-sub synchronization attempt.
  • Sub axis naming
    • LinuxCNC doesn't allow (as far as I know), axes to have an 'alias' applied.  If you're used to programming a sub's linear axis as "Z2" you'll have to get used to using a different letter.  LCNC can control up to 9 axes, but since the Z-axis is already (likely) the turret, then the logical letter for the sub's linear axis is 'W,' since UVW generally represent linear axes parallel to the primary XYZ axes.
Note that my lathe isn't finished yet and I've not done much cutting, but the main/sub config appear to be working OK... so take the above with a large grain of salt.

Hello cornholio,

I'm actually building both types of boats: model (1/4 scale) and real-sized; the first being a prelude to the second.

The RC boat starts with a "short kit" bought off of eBay - just the frame members (laser cut). I just have to put a skin on it.

I would dearly love a laser CNC machine to cut out the frame members for the real boat but many boat plans are not digitized (like mine) so the first thing I need to do is to turn a CNC machine into a giant "digitizer". Does experience doing that exist? It does seem doable and if I create the files I might be able to find someone to laser them for me for a price.

Thanks,
Tom

The MPG encoders are part of the inm module, so in halshow,
select hm2_7i96s.0.inm.00.enc0-count

Note that these are just raw counts and would need
the scale component to scale to position.

It might be easier to have some normal encoders brought out on the
parallel expansion connector since standard encoders have scaling built in.

Change color of SpeedControl widget using css

Category: Gmoccapy

Hello,

i am trying to change the color of the SpeedControl widget using css. It is used as the slider for feed/spindle override, the default color is orange. But I can't find out how to call it in css. I have the .css file set in the config ini and it is working if I change for example the color of labels or buttons.

This is what i tried:

speedcontrol {
     color: #9498A0;
}

Also i tried spc_rapid and spc_feed instead of speedcontrol. No effect. How to call it correctly? Thanks

You can control multiple spindles using 'M3 $n'

Homemade CNC Plasma - hypertherm, Mesa, gear drives, nema 34.

Category: Show Your Stuff

So after a few battles, i finally have the mesa board talking to LinuxCNC. I have movement. I have proximity sensors all connected and working. I have coded HAL to get the right distance traveled.

Still to go - laser pointer, z axis, air scribe, water table & tank, paint, clean out shed, concrete for shed floor to hold it.

I still have a glitch in the screen that shows what is being cut, and i get no preview of what i load,

LinuxCNC-RIO - RealtimeIO for LinuxCNC based on FPGA (ICE40 / ECP5)

Category: Computers and Hardware

OK so to answer my own previous question basically I'm stupid, I hadn't set ownership to my user account, so Linuxcnc couldn't write to the var file, and most likely create it in the first place, which is why it was missing.
I had thought I'd done it but obviously I hadn't or maybe did a typo at the time. I followed the Docker install instructions as per the wiki instructions if anybody else is having the same issue.
Big thanks to Meister for creating this and thanks to everybody else supporting.
Russell.

Never came across an M17 bolt (but M17x1 and M17x1.5 taps are available) :-)
Is the hex of the head 17 mm?
In that case it would probably be an M10 bolt as smc.collings already guessed.
M10x1 is common on rear axles for bicycle hubs, so that would be easy to confirm, by screwing the bolt into a nut from a bicycle.
Taps for it are "findable" e.g. Yamawa, Gühring, SUS, Corai, Regal come to mind.

Should it be M10x1 I would probably just make two slots into a hardenend bicycle axle with the angle grinder, then carefully screw it in with some cutting oil to clean up the thread.

assignments glitching with larger ladder programs

Category: ClassicLadder

No smoking gun yet, but it seems master branch will not load your program properly - and showed other bugs in master CL.
I do see your program uses 150 arithmetic expressions, which is the max you have available.

I got a sample program to use jump coils - see example.
(clicking the %B0 in the Vars bit window will change the #QW0 output from 1 to 5)
