Used Laptops tested with LinuxCNC and Mesa Ethernet boards

Category: Computers and Hardware

Another question, maybe not the ideal place for it, but let me give it a shot:)

Found a T470 with a touchscreen, just need seller to confirm a few things before pulling the trigger on it.
[EDIT] Done, I bought it. Will take a few weeks before I get my hands on it though.

Anyhow, I need it to dual boot as I also need Windows for a few things. Especially to run some servo tuning software for Delta and maybe Panasonic. Now, if I need to start messing with turning things off in the BIOS to make the T470 work for LCnc (I am on Mesa cards, so maybe I don't) will that also affect the Windows partition or would that be separate? My paranoia is that somehow, I will be limiting how well the laptop would work in Windows mode. That said, I don't know if servo tuning needs anything particular that BIOS modding could mess with.

What is the goal here?

Two completely separate CNC machines?
Are you just trying to have 1 computer running 2 machines?

Just buy a 2nd computer. Second hand business machines work fine

Ahh, that may be a master only option for stepconf and not in 2.9.4

If stepconf is standalone (I think it is) you should be able to just use the latest:

File Attachment:

File Name: stepconf.txt
File Size:74 KB

( rename to stepconf and chmod +x stepconf )

Trouble with LinuxCNC and Gantry stepper motor setup.

Category: Computers and Hardware

I've done this with a CNC plasma..... It's not too bad from the linuxcnc setup side of things. The hardest part is generating the gcode to do what you want. it's not too bad (programs like a lathe most of the time).

To run the y and a at the same time
G01 y5 a180 f50 that will turn the bar 180 degrees while y travels 5 inches in sync with each other.

What version of LinuxCNC?
Does it have "tandem N axis" as a choice?
Use that if possible, there are no slaves in LinuxCNC.
Just checked and 2.10 has those choices.

Nope, not the same thing, link is to running two programs at the same time, the video is using two Mesa cards that can easily be done by LinuxCNC, as well as any combination of multiple parallel ports, Mesa, EtherCAT.
Would your situation be possible using two PC's and many IO to communicate between them with feed holds and waits and whatever necessary?

Something like this should work:

You may need to invert one direction
and I'm not sure if you have home switches.
( Gantry homing typically takes 2 home switches )

Thank you for your answer. Seems like you're everywhere haha

Anyways, I saw both, and the first GitHub Issue seems to have died down, whereas the second link talks about something much more involved, which is coordinating two systems with one program. The second link is actually something another user archieved in a YouTube video , but it's not what I need since both machines in said video acted "as one".

My machine is using the Y and A motors off a parallel port breakout board. I went thru the step config wizard and set up X, Y, and Z configuration and included the A motor pins while doing so. Im really not sure how to proceed as I need Y and A to both home at the same time? Does anyone have a solution for this application?
Thanks in advance for your help and support!

Running two LinuxCNC instances in parallel

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hi there,
This is my first post here, and I haven't really found a "definitive" answer to my question.
Is it possible to run two LinuxCNC instances in parallel?
I have two CNC machines and would like to run two separate jobs on both machines. Nothing shared - just two jobs and two machines, really.

I already redirected the port 5005 to a different one for the other instance, but HAL still complains about using duplicated ressources. As I've read in another thread, using two computers and a third to control the other two seems... counterintuitive, to say the least.
Where lies the problem? Is there any way to overcome it?

Thanks in advance!

Xilinx Zynq 7010 fpga crypto windfall boards

Category: Driver Boards

yip, looks like the whole crypto mining industry is controlled by zynq 7010

dont' forget you would still need a breakout board which will move you much closer to a price of mesa board if you are after hostmot2.
