No, nothing new, it's been very quiet on the business side for quite some time so it's causing me huge mental stress after investing all that time and effort and money, but keeps me cool knowing i have plenty of stuff ready.
Just came from the old shop, was looking at starting to build a mill (finally) and a small lathe, and maybe if i can organize the rails and ballscrews a small wire EDM.
I have to much stuff that does not fit together nicely so i need to convince myself to grab the angle grinder and have a blast with it till stuff fits together! :)
As for servos, i still have some unused brushed motors, a huge brushless Siemens/whatever their name is, but no drives.
I do have plenty of RC servo drives, though, up to 8S/70A ones, but only small motors! :)
And to top it off in the "stuff that does not fit" i have analog RC googles but only digital RC camera!

Rtelligent ECT86 Closed Loop Stepper Driver Encoder Setting

Category: EtherCAT

With some help of the producer I got to the problem.
For me, my old drives that were working, were on software version 3042.
The drives that did not work, were on software version 30D1.

Apparently, you have to switch A+ and A- when you are working on software version 30D1. All works well after that adaption.

Thank you D Jensen for the manuals. They do appear to work fine. Unfortunately, right now I don't have the time/energy to go through them (long working days...), but will in the future. I appreciate it!

vre: Like you may have read a few posts back, I had all kinds of issues with the scales/interpolators. I did not want to turn this "restoration" into a interpolator project, so I thought I'd try the EXE 602 to see if those work without issue. At this current moment, I do think that my own interpolators would work fine. I never saw them missing a single encoder step/pulse, with the exception for the index pulse. And once I realized the voltage issue (because of the circuit breaker and also fuse), I only saw the vertical axis miss the index pulse. And as it turned out, I think that is an issue with the scale and not with the interpolator, as the EXE 602 also missed the index pulse every once in a while. It was more straightforward to "resistor bodge" the EXE 602 than my own interpolator. And after all time spent on this, I preferred to move on once everything seemed to be working properly. That being said, I do want to still use my own interpolators. But I will get the machine into a working condition before considering that.

Do you need the hal config and components right now? I did have a plan to share everything, perhaps on github. But I would still like to polish especially the components a bit. And also the configs are not really clean at the moment, since I still don't have everything setup properly. But if you needs something now, I might still oblige. At the very least, I will provide whatever setup/information I have about specific issues.

25 Years of machinery service, retrofits and custom machinery means nothing to guys wearing suits that have a "don't you know who I am? I can do what I want" attitude. It's a long story but $4.7M in contracts canceled by a prick. If I could afford a lawyer we would be in court over it.

Configuring 6 axis robot arm with lcnc

Category: HAL

Hey, yeah its been an insane learning curve but im happy to say i figured it out, i have the robot arm pretty much working at the moment, got 6 tmc 5160 drivers connected to the PI5 and am using an arduino for SPI to configure the drivers (i wouldnt have enough pins for toolheads if i used the Pi's SPI interface). Right now all i need to figure out is the DH parameters of the arm itself and some scaling stuff but that shouldnt be too difficult, i had another question though, is it a good idea atall to run 6 stepper motors with step/dir controls using the pi5? im not sure if its powerful enough to do it consistently, i get movement on all the motors with no problem i just dont know how reliable thats gonna be in the long run, maybe running the tmc5160's in SPI mode would be easier if i were to let them do their own stepgen, that would be a whole other learning process too although it might be better

Why Wine?

Configuration software for Kollmorgen servo drivers are only for win7 and I do not want to use more PCs or virtual stuff on my lcnc ...

Tommy what any news with the servo stuff from your workshop? do you have any new pieces?

config all good on mesa 7i96s?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hello everyone,I've recently converted a second hand CNC router from Mach3 with ESS to LinuxCNC with a Mesa 7i96s board. I've used PNCconf to generate my initial configuration, but I'd appreciate if someone could review my settings and let me know if everything looks okay.Machine Specs:
  • X460, Y750mm, Z300
  • 20mm linear rails
  • 10mm pitch ballscrews, 20mm diameter
  • Construction: aluminum profiles bolted to 12mm steel plates, welded gantry sides
  • Motors: Y-axis 6.8Nm stepper, Z + X-axis 3Nm stepper
  • Drives: DM556 V1 48v
  • Spindle: 24K RPM 2.2kW ER20
  • inductive endstops
  • good latency values mostly sub 3000ns servo
PNCconf Settings:
  • Step On-Time: 5000 nanoseconds
  • Maximum Velocity: 3000 mm/min
  • Maximum Acceleration: 400 mm/sec²
Key Config Values from INI File:
  • X travel: -2.0mm to 460.0mm (STEP_SCALE = -200.0)
  • Y travel: -2.0mm to 750.0mm (STEP_SCALE = 200.0)
  • Z travel: -300.0mm to 0.01mm (STEP_SCALE = -400.0)
  • Step timing: DIRSETUP/DIRHOLD = 10000ns, STEPLEN/STEPSPACE = 5000ns
Questions:
  1. I see a
    z-neg-limit
signal in my HAL file that doesn't seem to be connected to anything - is this a problem?
  2. Are my velocity and acceleration values reasonable for this type of machine?
  3. Any other issues or recommendations before I start cutting?

changes/upgrades
As I am already in the process of messing with the machine, would you recommend any meaningful upgrades or changes to it? I will mostly mill soft materials like wood but also want to try aluminium.
  1. should I change the microstepping ( it is 10x at the moment)
  2. other stepper motor or drivers?
  3. switch to s curve compact fork?
I've attached HAL and INI files below for reference. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

Hello, I've the same issue on Rpi5 but your solution do not work completely.

I've on the boot the DSI display working well but after starting, Linuxcnc switch to the HDMI and I do not find anything in the configuration to display on the DSI and on the HDMI.

Do I've miss something ?
