i wired it like you said, no change. when i hook a multimeter to the 7i96s, i dont get movement in voltage while i went thru config and set the motor tune to move up down 1in with no pause.

how do i check for a bad board?

i have tried two different motherboards, and an add on network card, powered the mesa with a benchtop power supply. im deep in the mud.

First time linux cnc user - no stepper movement.

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

The 4030 has pretty high input current requirements,
so may need single ended wiring (I think you indicated
that you had this wiring but was not sure)

7I96S     DRIVE
+5V       STEP+,DIR+
STEP+    NC
DIR+      NC
STEP-    STEP-
DIR-       DIR-

You can also test operation by jogging in either direction
and checking the the DIR polarity changes appropriately.

is it possible that the cell phone adapter power is the issue? i have a L7805CV L7805 Positive Voltage Regulator Output 5v TO-220, can i use one to power the mesa?

Good to know - I am in the EU though, not sure that is feasible here.

For simple isolated issues (like a step/dir channel failure or spindle issue)
It is possible to repair the card

Editing Bitfile on 7i97t for extra smart serial connections

Category: Driver Boards

Thanks for your help so far. I tried getting the convertor board by talla83 to work and I'm done because it won't run. I`m now willing to buy my way out of the problem and just install a 7i85 to the expansion port. I have already flashed the bitfile for that as per your instructions in this thread. So I just need a 7i85 and a proper expansion cable.

Then I can connect the 7i73 with a butchered ethernet cable and also have connections for more encoders (spindle maybe and 4th axis) so I can justify saving my nerves by spending that extra money.

i would buy this combination:
eusurplus.com/index.php?route=product/pr...t_id=105&search=7i85
eusurplus.com/index.php?route=product/pr...59_63&product_id=108

Would that work with my 7i97t using my current bitfile 7i97t_7i85d.bin?

7i76e step dir signal missing for stepgen type 0

Category: Driver Boards

Probably your scope setup
Minimum step length on the 7I76E is one ClockLow cycle or 10 ns

The 4030 drive does require quite high drive current
so you may need to wire it single ended:

7I76E +5 to Drive STEP+, DIR+
7I76E STEP- to Drive STEP-
7I76E DIR- to Drive DIR-

No, the only differences between 7I76E versions is that the overvoltage
protection is better on the C rev cards and the field power regulator uses
a different chip. The spindle interface is identical.
