Computer Shutdown

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Hello,
I use gmoccapy. When I turn on the machine, the computer starts first, then gmoccapy. How can I shut down Linuxcnc first and then the computer when I press an external key?
Can I do this with a button on the machine?

Hello,

I think you could script the HAL file to configure the external button to shut down LinuxCNC first, then the computer, and link the button to both functions in that order.

Thanks for they reply. I bought this controller on ebay(picture). it was cheap, not totally sure it will work, but it was $25. I think right now the biggest problem is going to be figuring out the wiring on the motor, because it's not labeled or anything. I'll look into those controllers as well.

Also do you think 60v sounds right ? that seem high to me.

Not really good enough. Everything needs dual redundancy.

Note that the estop button has two redunant circuits
The main contactor needs both K1 & K2 to be triggered
K3 & K4 are seperate force guided relays. Linuxcnc is not updated with a sucessful power on unless both K3 & K4 are triggered.
Force guided relays have a non conductive pin forced between the contacts to ensure contacts cannot be welded together.
Additional safety switches eg. door switches, guards etc are placed in the S33/S34 loop with the reset button.

With such a wiring layout, it is permissable to use  linuxcnc's software power button as a reset latch. In this case, use iocontrol.0.user-request-enable as it receives a pulse to repliciate the external reset button.

BUt the safety relay cost me $250 AUD and another $100 or so for the force guided relays.

F117 has 9 computers with a single purpose of keeping it from falling like a brick!
Yes, it is a plane, and it is stealth.
No one asked for this info.....

Benb is trying to explain, with examples, how e-stop functions and how it should be implemented and why it is very important, so help him.
Thank you Benb.
-
Mentioning related stuff and the multitude of options might add to it, but it is not helping much without actual examples and corresponding info.
-
Another rant:
I have never used e-stop latch, although it does have it's uses for sure, but i have used the normal e-stop in and out even on 16 ton machines, as Aciera so eloquently put it "the implementation of proper machine safety standards is first and foremost the responsibility of the machine integrator" so the e-stop from LinuxCNC is just integrated into the machine e-stop system.
My point being, stop telling people to use e-stop latch unless they actually need it, they wind up wasting days trying to set it up and get frustrated, while the machines using it can be mostly stopped with a single hand and not much effort.
net e-stop-in <=== whatever-input-pin-01
net e-stop-out ===> whatever-output-pin-22

Let me be clear ,I am only trying to raise awareness that screen estops are not allowed.

This discussion is not about machine safety relays, devices, … etc. So, let’s not mix-up things and muddy the discussion.

This awareness message is strictly about machine estop/reset only, which require very simple relay circuit. If you cannot read electrical diagrams just google start/stop circuit and you will find several examples showing realistic picture and wiring diagram for non electrical inclined.

To build an estop/reset circuit you need: red mushroom shaped push button, a push button and a relay wired as follows:

Servo HCFA Y7

Category: EtherCAT

 Hi .
I recently purchased HCFA HN-Y7FB040A-S servos. Linuxcnc installation with Ethercat went well, but I don't know what to do next. How to configure it all. I've been working on it for a long time and nothing comes to mind. I'm mainly interested in the .xml file, how to go about it.

I received a configuration file from the manufacturer, but what to do with it next?
I'm new to ethercat. If I don't have a problem configuring mesa or lpt cards, I don't know how to deal with ethercat.
I have a project to complete to build my own machine and I would like to use these servos in it.
Please help. I'll be happy to return the favor.

Currently I'm using that:
freeby.mesanet.com/7c81_mx4660x2d.zip

Can I ask You to make it in way:
P1 = 7i77
P2 = MX4660
P7 = GPIO
if it's not plenty of work?
I'm asking because that will help me with arrange space in cabinet.
Thank You in advance

and in connection with photos above
I manually added config for pncconf for 7c81 and 7i77 and mx4660 but something is wrong in comparision to 5i25 + 7i77:
  i cant find where is mistake, everything looks ok, maybe You know?

I'm not sure what you are suggesting

What firmware are you using currently?

I would probably make firmware something like

P1 = MX4660
P2 = 7I77
P7 = GPIO

do you have a servo driver that can work in two independent modes step/dir (position), and analog input (velocity mode)? take a look at the video, I did it by introducing ``A `` as standard axis for changing the position, and the motor rotates like a classic lathe through the gcode M3 ``S``command by analog signal.

Converting a 7i76e config to 7c81/7i76 pair

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

A bad 40 pin cable would cause different types of errors
(the 7C81 itself would cause errors)

Might be bad 7C81, bad 7I76, or bad 26 pin cable.
mis-jumpering is unlikely to cause damage.

Do the 7I76 step/dir outputs work? That would be a quick test
of the firmware, cable, 7C81 and 7I76

Editing Bitfile on 7i97t for extra smart serial connections

Category: Driver Boards

Ahh I messed up there my apologies.

I also had forgotten about the pin file options and that most of the
newer ones show daughterboard pinouts. I only noticed when I looked
at the actual distributed files.

The difference is this:

mesaflash --device 7I97t --addr [card_ip_address] --readhmid > 7i97t.pin

mesaflash --device 7I97t --addr [card_ip_address] --dbname3 7i85 --readhmid > 7i97t.pin

Converting a 7i76e config to 7c81/7i76 pair

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I edited num_encoder to be 1.
I just used pncconfig to create a new 5i25 file set and then made the changes for the 7c81.
I am still getting the error message on "hm2_7c81.0.7i76.0.0.output-00" that this pin doesn't exist.
I think I will order a new 40 pin cable to see if that fixes the problem.
Is it possible that the 7i76 could have been damaged when the power jumper was misconfigured?
The other thing that I could try would be to take the 5i25 files over to my machine that actually has a 5i25/7i76 pair and see if it will load there.
If I sent you the .ini file and the .hal file could you see if there is anything obviously wrong?
