Beginner Building a CNC - Questions About EtherCAT with Delta A2 and In

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

hi andypugh thank you for replying. What interface would you recommend for getting started? I’m not looking for anything too fancy — just something to get the first few projects running. I’ll upgrade the machine later. As for second-hand servos, I haven’t been able to find many good options here. Most of the ones I’ve seen have been used almost to the point of failure, so I’m worried that if I buy them, they might break down quickly and I’ll end up spending twice as much.

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

github.com/scottalford75/Remora-RT1052-c...xCNC/nvem-rt1052.txt

this is your config.txt and it loads on the board via tfpt, hence the NVEM in the title. It is board specific, and is the only thing board specific.

github.com/scottalford75/Remora-RT1052-c.../remora-rt1052-basic
this is the hal/ini file. it is not board specific. the same hal/ini file will work with the ec300 ec500 and nvem.

load the config.txt to the board, and load the remora-rt1052-basic in linuxcnc
dont go to any other github repos. dont run the file through AI. you configure your machine in the ini file.

Beginner Building a CNC - Questions About EtherCAT with Delta A2 and In

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

hi rodw, thank you very much!
I have a question: if I don’t use Beckhoff and just use the computer’s Ethernet port or network card, how can I control things like the VFD for the spindle motor or coolant flow? Where would I connect those? Also, I live in Iran and unfortunately Mesa FPGA cards are not available here.
it’s almost like North Korea here — we can’t really order anything from abroad, so I haven’t been able to get any Mesa FPGA cards

None of the axis are moving - using mesa 7i92t with 7i76u

Category: Basic Configuration

Hi All

I have tried a few variations of wiring (but plugging it in to P1 surely didn’t help), more about that shortly.

I tried this

Mesa 7i76u TB2 axis to DM556T signal in.

Differential wiring:
GND
STEP- to PUL-
STEP+ to PUL+
DIR- to DIR-
DIR+ to DIR+
+5VP
(with ENA+ and ENA- on DM556T not connected)

I tried the same as above with
GND wired to ENA-
then
+5VP wired to ENA+
then
with both wired.

***************************
See Control Signals image which shows two different wiring for single ended.

I don’t know which type the Mesa 7i76u control uses, but I tried both of these.

Open-collector signal ties +5VP to PUL+ , DIR+ and ENA+
PUL- to PUL-
DIR- to DIR-

PNP signal ties GND to PUL-, DIR- and ENA-
STEP+ to PUL+
DIR+ to DIR+

***************************

Enable_disable image mentions this …

Enable signal:
This signal is used for enabling/disabling the drive.
High level +5V (NPN control signal) for enabling the drive, and low level for disabling the drive.

PNP and Differential control signals are on the contrary, namely Low level for enabling.

By default it is left UNCONNECTED (ENABLED).

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

Would anyone have valid Remora NVEM v5 config samples available anywhere? I do not have an EC500. I do not have an EC300. I have an NVEM v5 and so far no examples will work at all. Attempting to use the hal and ini files from github.com/scottalford75/Remora-RT1052-c.../remora-rt1052-basic do not seem to work as they all seem to be for the EC500. Any attempt  to use the config samples from github.com/scottalford75/Remora-NVEM results in compounding errors and will not run axis at all. Perhaps all I need to do is edit the EC500 hal and ini files? Is there any guide that will instruct me as to WHAT in those files I need to edit to get it to work? When I run the axis ec500 config and toggle the Estop and power on I can see the activity lights on the ethernet port start blinking so I know there is at least an attempt to communicate with the controller, but I am pretty sure that most else is different in the configs between the EC units and the NVEM units.

Honestly at this point I am sure I have an acute case of information overload and have wiped out and reinstalled remora more than a few times.

Is there a bug in the carousel component or am I doing it wrong ATC Denford

Thank you for presenting other approaches to the subject. It allows me to better understand the general principle of operation of various concepts and HAL structures
I will test your suggestions (it will take me some time) and I will definitely describe it on the forum so that it will be helpful for other and so that they do not bother you with nonsense like me hehe :) )

The ethercat master doesn't have the right contact with the network interface.
Do "sudo service ethercat restart" and show here the lines from "sudo dmesg" from this restart, some 30 lines or so, check time.

Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

Hi guys

I couldn't resist and bought a new board, this time I opted for a 3-axis EC500,
it has LEDs that indicate the I/O status, I think it's more complete.

I tested it with Mach3 to make sure it was working well, given the previous ones,
and it worked on all three axes.

When loading the firmware, it got to 29% and timed out and everything froze,
the DAP wasn't receiving signals.
I reread page 115 of the thread that talks about how to unlock and after having
bridged BOOT_MO and 3V3 I managed to delete and write the new firmware!!

Now all 6 axes work.

Thanks again to Scott and to whoever made all this possible.

Hi
I connected to a small laser gantry structure the EC500 with Remora
and a small demo video .
I have to say it works great!!!
Thanks!

THANKS!!! WORKS!

Now i understand, because they are isolated you need to connect the common pin to a GND reference point to the voltage that will be applied to the input 1-11 pins. I connected everything as you said and it works flawlessly. !!!!

This feels like a bigger achievement than getting my Master's degree haha.

mechanical limits switches wiring for 7i96s MESA

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

The isolated inputs will not work as expected unless you connect the
input common (TB3 pin 12)

For sinking inputs (pullup to a positive voltage to activate), input common should be
connected to  GND/power common. If you are using 5V from the 7I96S, this is the
stepgen connector GND.

And yes if you use a 24V supply and sinking inputs, the 7I96S input common would
connect to the 24V supply common (negative)

Thank you very much.

I don't understand how this is different from what I am trying. here is the setup:

Switch NC to 5V from one of the pins (would it be okay to plug it in the stepper motor DC 24 power supply?)

Switch C to PIN 1 TB3.

IN this case I am missing the TB3 common pin - will it work if I connect it to the GND from the MESA where I am getting the 5V will it work? It is not working as it is right now.

Eitherway if you say it is safe I will connect the DC power supply 24V to the limit switch NC then C switch to TB3 pin and I can connect the Common TB12 pin to the Power supply DC GND.

mechanical limits switches wiring for 7i96s MESA

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

If you use NC limit switch contacts and sinking inputs, wiring would be:

7I96S input common (TB3 pin 12) = GND (24V common)

+24V --> Limit-Switch C --> Limit-Switch NC --> 7I96S Input (TB3 pin 1 through 11)

In hal, the input must be inverted.

You can use 5V instead of 24V but it's not as reliable long term with mechanical switches
