Retrofitting a 3-axis VMC with DC servos - guidance needed

Category: Driver Boards

Yes, a 7I73 (or other sserial device) can connect directly to the 7I97T

1 KHz is the default LinuxCNC servo thread rate and is typically fine for
normal CNC machines with velocity mode servos.

You can add multiple Ethernet cards with a switch or multiple Ethernet ports

One more problem, LinuxCNC is using 3-axis (xyz) readahead, so if you are using xyz+(abcuvw) axis blending in G-code command, the speed will be very slow

Kinematic model for a 5axis mill with universal (nutating) head

Category: Show Your Stuff

Just wanted to say thanks for all the work on this.  I just got it working on my machine.  I don't have a nutating head, but settings the angle to 90 worked perfectly.  Also, since I have 2 c axis I edited the kinematics to pass through an additional W axis for the rotating table.

Retrofitting a 3-axis VMC with DC servos - guidance needed

Category: Driver Boards

I'm not sure, to be honest. I wasn't specifically looking for the ethernet version of the boards, as they don't seem to be the most popular option here (or at least that's my impression).

From what I've read, the ethernet version usually has a 1 kHz refresh rate. My goal was to find the most reliable configuration possible, so if I messed something up, I'd have a solid backup.

However, now that I'm looking at it, I think it's a good option. It could be used with different PCs in the future without becoming a bottleneck. Do you know of any topics or threads where this configuration is discussed?

for what i read i can connect the 7i73 to the port in the board (using the cable correctly)

And i can add more inputs and ouputs through the db25 connector.

And can i use other ports of ethernet to add more boards or this is a banned move

Also, could someone explain if there's any problem comparing the PCIe to the ethernet versions? After reading and writing this, I don't think 1 kHz is a bad rate for these, and the machine's operation is controlled by the board itself, while the PC only refreshes and corrects some things, right?

Again, thank you guy for your help.

Cheers.

Just been perusing some of the threads on Flex - really interesting. I'll definitely have a closer look..!

The cool thing about Flex is you don't need to program anything, the center calculator is built in now. Glade is very old and might not work well with new OS's while Flex is based on PyQt6 and is the only gui to use PyQt6 the rest of Qt gui's use PyQt5 which is at EOL.

And I'm from the same old school as you if it ain't broke don't fix it... my Hardinge CHNC runs on Ubuntu 10 with EMC 2.7 so it's 15 years old and works fine.

Great work JT. Looks ace. I can't see myself going over to Flex GUI - my 2.8.4 install is super stable and I'm one of those 'if it ain't broke...' guys (my mini mill runs an ancient version of LinuxCNC and has been for the last 11 years or so...) I'm about to install 2.9.2 on a spare stand alone PC to have a play with GladeVCP, so may try out Flex GUI on that machine once I've figured out I can't get anything to work in Glade...

Hey, if you need an image file that integrates better into your tab I'm attaching one here (says POINT 1 instead of POS A etc. is 1:1 ratio and the background colour should match your tab's bg colour).

Set Tool Touch Off Pos

Category: QtPyVCP

When i attempt use the set the tool touch off position button, the X Y and Z remains greyed out and does not change values.  Seems like I'm missing something to make those 3 values become active.

Thanks for any input.

Remora DMA Code in other Builds?

Category: Computers and Hardware

@scotta

Does Remora DMA code exist in other builds other than EC500 specific version OS5/OS6 ?

If not what are your thoughts on what would need to be done for porting the EC500 code to an F4 series target?

Thanks

Retrofitting a 3-axis VMC with DC servos - guidance needed

Category: Driver Boards

Yes, but looking at those always there's something that's not available.
Since I'm out of the United States, I wanna buy all from the same provider.

I'm thinking if it's a good idea to use the next configuration:
1x 6i24-16
2x 7i36
1x 7i44
1x 7i73

One of the 7i36s is if I want to install a fourth axis, but I'm using all the connections on the 6i24.

The next configuration I'm looking at is:
1x 6i24-16
1x 7i48
1x 7i44
1x 7i73

In this one, connectors are unused, and I can control 4 axes, a spindle, and the rest of the machine in both configurations.

Can someone explain to me if one is better than the other (don't taking into account that one has one more connector available)?

I haven't found anyone that used the 6i24 with the 7i48. The 2x7i65 is in the manual of the 6i24. It shows as a supplied configuration.

There is some limitation in the ports or the cards that i can use?
cause looking at it do not say anything like that.
And what are the chance that the second option (7i48) came available soon in mesanet

Thank you so much guys again.
You are helping me a lot.
Cheers

Now you can just drag a container into any Flex GUI and name it and magically the 3 point center calculator shows up.

This is the Axis style Flex GUI

Date and time synchronization

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I had installed LinuxCNC a few months back, but I didn't use it. I tried two days back to install Arduino, and the date is showing wrong on the taskbar, and I am unable to connect to the internet for browsing.

Let me know what I can do best. I always check the CMOS battery on Windows to see if it is good or not, but this motherboard is under warranty.
