I have the feeling i have let down the forum lately, as can be seen from my "half line" replies ...Haha, sounds good, you're always so willing to help on this forum, it's nice to be able to give you a hand once in a while as well. Especially given how much you've contributed to this project ...

The editor ?
BTW, found another "shoot the foot" issue and this time i can safely say it is the QT part of it, so do not be disappointed if it ends up again as not being QT issue !
Procedure to reproduce the "wipe the parameters to default":
-Requires Mesa ethernet, not sure for anything else,
-set the PC to autostart LinuxCNC with the config in use,
-boot the PC but leave the machine off so it can not communicate with the Mesa board,
-it errors out with the error report ( this is normal )
-close the error report
-power on the machine
-double click on the desktop shortcut to start LinuxCNC with the same config as in the autostart
--Ding, ding, ding we have everything at default.
I did mention before that it happened on two of the three machines, the third machine switches off and on the power to PC and machine at the same time, so this does not happen, took several days of 2 to 4 hours of hunting till i figured this out! Oh joy !
Maybe tomorrow i can get some quality time with the big machine and do an update, have to cut some key hangers, so here it is in one of the versions, that be my family name and it is hanging in the hall way for over two years now, also the SVG if anyone want to edit and cut this:

Yep, it is crap...The editor ?
Haha, that sequence of events surely is something I haven't tried.BTW, found another "shoot the foot" issue and this time i can safely say it is the QT part of it, so do not be disappointed if it ends up again as not being QT issue !

It is good that you found a way to replicate it so we should be able to fix it.

Edit:
I got used to the editor, click on "reply" or "quote", as soon as it opens click on "source", type the message, submit, edit to add attachments, and in no way shape or form click on "insert all" !
Give it a try, it gets ... interesting !

Yep, I click "Source" as well, I did make the mistake of clicking it again after editing once, what a mess that left...

Using a 7i96 I followed that procedure several times but I don't get the Parameters reset to default.
I also tried powering off the machine before shutting LinuxCNC down and couldn't see any issues there either.
My command in Autostart is:
sh -c "linuxcnc ~/linuxcnc/configs/prefs_test/prefs_test.ini"
I also tried with the desktop shortcut as the Autostart command, no difference.
This is the error report that I get after restarting with the machine powered off.

linuxcnc -l
Using a script sounds overly complicated...
So far I've not resorted to source. You can mouse over the end of a quote and a red button appears. Click on that and you can reply but the edit is a disaster!
