As I have nearly all the major components now, my excuses for not getting into the retrofit are wearing thin.

Thank you for the videos, love your work.

I have to say, I’m a bit jealous about your manual tailstock. What a beauty!

Did you ever think about putting linear scales on the machine? Or do you think it is overkill when having Schaublin mechanics and ballscrews?
Sorry if you already said something about this topic and I missed it.
Keep up the great work!

I have considered it. It would be easy to fit a linear scale to the Z axis, but would be difficult to do a decent installation on the cross slide without chewing up space. It might be possible to hang the X axis off the back. I might take another look at this once I get closer to finished. I doubt it will add much to accuracy.

Yes, x axis placement is probably the biggest problem. On my Colchester Lathe the linear scale is also on the back of the cross slide. Not too nice when you want an compact machine. And the enclosure is probably in the way too.
Really looking forward to see the capabilities of the machine.

The schaublin does have a pretty limited X travel, so you would nor need a very long scale, but I will start my conversion without. I am going to feed through the Servo encoder signals to LinuxCNC though.

Finished the cabinet chop at least. Had to spice this one up with extra aviation tales while watching the paint dry. Hope you dont mind :)

I want to bench test my Festo CPV10--> Mesa 7i84-->7i85-->7i92.
The mini pc which I ordered has not arrived yet, so I figured I'd do a live install with the latest preempt image on my laptop for testing.
I have the 7i92 powered up and connected, but can't ping 192.168.1.121

I see there I need to switch network managers from WICD to network-manager.

Wish me luck :)

Did not take long for that to fail. Looks like you need to be SUDO to do apt-get install network-manager network-manager-gnome. Anyone knwo the SUDO credentials of the Live Install for 2.8.2? Is it even a good idea to try this in the live install?

Get the new 2.8.2 ISO, it should have network manager.
Downloaded it last night, did not have time to check yet.
