Hardinge HNC retrofit and where to start
G-code is second nature for me I am a machinist and it is not all about
just having a machine in my garage, that is already done. The challenge is to do something that i have never done
But if I can do i for less than 4K i am not opposed to that either. I do know that there are lots of guys on the site that
are more than willing to help out and I do appreciate that. I also use pro-engineer for my cam and cad designs as well
and I have developed one post processor for our tool room lathe. I guess I am just a little bit apprehensive about starting something new
but none the less am going to give it a try. with that said I have been looking at the machine and have decided that I should start with
trying to get the spindle unlocked as well as testing the axis drivers, I will work on the photos this afternoon and see if I can resize them
with the camera software. I do not intend to use linux for any thing other than running the lathe and any future machines that I retrofit untill I am used
to how it works so photo editing will have to be done with my camera software.
thanks again for yours and everyones input and opinion which I value very much
you guys know much more than I do so I will take your advise and steer clear of any prebuilt control systems.

Neither are a concern time or space I have a 30 x30 shop that I can always move things around to
accommodate whatever I need , I am getting rid of most of my automotive projects and will be replacing with
machining equipment. so no big hurry as far as time goes either.
I am in the process of compiling a list of electronics that I will be needing Just haven't been able to make up my mind
thinking 5i25 with 7i33 but would like to have a nice pendant also.

I don't think that is a workable combination. Mesa cards either have 50-pin headers (5i20/5i23/5i22/7i43) or 25-pin D-sub (5i25 / 6i25)thinking 5i25 with 7i33 but would like to have a nice pendant also.
Daughter cards / remotes connect by 50pin header, DB25 or Cat5(ethernet cabling, called Smart Serial)
(5i20 / 5i22 / 5i23 ) + (7i33 / 7i49 / 7i47) works.
(5i25 / 6i25) + (7i76 / 7i77 / 7i78) works.
If you add a 7i44 to a 5i20/5i22/5i23 then you can easily attach a 7i71 pendant interface (plus 7 other "SmartSerial" devices)
There is a connector on the 7i76 / 7i77 for one device like a 7i71. but you can add more in various combinations.

With encoders, yes. Not with resolvers. The 7i49 is a 50-pin device.so the 5i25/7i77 would work
What do you want from the pendant? I am happily using a USB game controller but that only does certain things.and I can add the pendant later or would I be better served if I go with the pendant now?

Andy, did you mean the 7i73 pendant interface? or am I confused?
Yes, I did. I get confused easily.
The 7i71 is completely different.
