I found a mistake in the ssinstall script ("bin" instead on "lib" in the path)

can you download sserial.zip, unzip it and retry installing the firmware
with sudo ./ssinstall

then re-try the update script

I managed the following:

ptd001@ptd001:~/linuxcnc/sserial/utils/linuxcnc$ sudo ./ssinstall
installing ss firmware files:
ptd001@ptd001:~/linuxcnc/sserial/utils/linuxcnc$ ls

is it still required to install BIN files?

Still giving same error:

ptd001@ptd001:~/linuxcnc/sserial/utils/linuxcnc$ sudo ./ssinstall
installing ss firmware files:
ptd001@ptd001:~/linuxcnc/sserial/utils/linuxcnc$ ls

The .BIN files are firmware files for remote I/o devices, it makes no sense to execute them

first check if the .BIN files were installed with

ls /lib/firmware/hm2/sserial

then rerun the update7i77 script

also the tail end of the kernel log may give more useful error messages

dmesg prints the kernel log

Can you post the end of the kernel log here?

Also are you trying to run the script with linuxcnc already running?

I just tested with 2.7 here and it worked without complaint

The error is this:
SSLBP Version must be at least v34. This firmware has v33

You must first update the 5I25 firmware with mesaflash before updating the 7I77 firmware
