Actually, Andy we've been down this road, the setsserial.ko missing error is bogus and caused by previous errors

Diederik, can you post the kernel log? setsserial error messages are all there, without that, its impossible to tell whats going on

Curious. I wonder why the system is looking in /proc/modules?

You could try
. ./scripts/rip-environment
in the LinuxCNC source folder. If you have one. But I don't actually think that is the problem here.

Can you do
sudo dmesg -c
then try the 7i77 update, then
dmesg

And paste the output here?

Hmm, the dmesg seems to suggest that the update7i77 script is looking for 8i20s...

I will repeat an earlier question: Where did you find the update7i77 script?

From the log, theres no communication with the 7I77 at 115200 baud, so it looks like you did not set the 7I77
jumpers to setup mode and cycle the 7I77s power (both 5V and field power)
before starting the firmware update script

There are clear instructions on the screen to move the jumpers and cycle the power, so I was discounting that possibility.

am I correct to say that I need to set jumper W4, and W12 in down, ?

Quote:

move 7I77 W4 and W12 to right hand positions
cycle 7I77 field power and 5V power and hit return

now move 7I77 W4 and W12 to the left hand positiona
and cycle field power and 5V power
ptd001@ptd001:~/linuxcnc/sserial/utils/linuxcnc$

the exact procedure of how I should do this? as follows:

move 7I77 W4 and W12 to right hand positions
cycle 7I77 field power and 5V power and hit return
then should I run the script? then after

:now move 7I77 W4 and W12 to the left hand positiona
and cycle field power and 5V power?

by "cycle 7I77 field power and 5V power and hit return" : does this mean I have to power down, and power up again? or should I leave it off?

I have tried to remove field power and 5V, but, possibly my procedure was not correct.

I have tried all possibilities of differrent ways, and is running out of ideas... I only changed jumpers on the 7i77,

on 5i25: jumpers W1 and W2 is in default state : DOWN, DOWN BREAKOUT POWER DISABLED (DEFAULT)

Do no change 5i25 jumpers

7I77 jumpers W4 and W12 must be in the right hand position (away from the DB25 connector)
and the 7I77 power cycled (power cycle CPU and field power after moving jumpers to the right)
to be able to program the flash (its not a power cycle unless all 7I77 LEDs are off then on again)
