I am getting nowhere trying to install drivers.
So back to basics.
The touch screen works but is not calibrated to be useful.
My question is what calibrator to use and where put calibration data.
Help would be appreciated.

Try xinput-calibrator
sudo apt-get install xinput-calibrator
It appears as "Calibrate Touchscreen" in the menu.

Done that but calibration data will not stick.
Have tried both ways saving to
/etc..... 99 conf
/usr......40 conf
Is it maybe so that the data should be somewhere else?

I think that you can paste it straight in to Xorg, conf.
But by default I don't think that xorg, conf exists.
Xorg --configure
will set it up. But you apparently need to run that with X not running. I am not 100% sure how you do that, but I imagine that the internet knows.

Well that did not work, the configure can not detect the USB touch.
