You should use estop-latch

Why?
-
Yes, there are instances when it is very useful, but not on simple/hobby/small machines, and especially not for beginners.

Thanks JT. Maybe it is because I'm doing it right now in a virtual machine. i've been shopping for a touchscreen to buy and will accelerate my choice so that we can put this to bed. I'll let you know what I find.

Thanks again for all the work you have put into this, and also for the youtube video instruction on how to do things. It is fantastic!!!

development of a qt version of ncam

Category: Qtvcp

There is a branch that I created for Qt_ncam:
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/commits/qt_ncam/

As I said I haven't looked at it in a while so need to rebase on master and make sure it still works. I am not a proper programmer - I just hack till it works so the code right now is a mess.

The big problem is I never used Ncam so don't know how/what things worked before.
Some things work now but really I could use someone who knows the program to audit and prioritize what part to work on. That would help and motivate me more.

yes I have less time for linuxcnc too.
I would really like to get this working and in linuxcnc.

The jog buttons work as expected and the axis jogs as long as I'm touching the button on my touch screen on my BP and they work in Debian with a simulator. I'm assuming you're using jog plus minus joint buttons such as jog_plus_pb_0 for the X axis and Continuous is selected.

Feedback is what keeps me going!

Hard drives dont like cold.
And if you running them out on the floor make sure you have a backup of the HD cause one day you gonna turn it on and it’s gonna say no HD found.

Linuxcnc & the Raspberry Pi (4 & 5) Official Images Only!!!

Category: Installing LinuxCNC

No, it has nothing to do with the kernel module, disabling the kernel module won't stop the service running. The messages are coming from the service systemd is attempting to start.
One option is to mask the service and have no swap available.
The second option is as I've described and have a little swap if needed.
But it's not the kernel modules that are issue.
Not to be unkind but I didn't pull the solution out of my backside, I spent some time researching the issue, as to what was causing the issue, how to fix the issue and what was supposed to be happening.
The service is for setting up swap in compressed ram. Whilst there is a little overhead in compressing and decompressing the speed for accessing ram is far far quicker than accessing a drive of any sort. If no swapping occurs it will have no affect on latency.
And even before I offered up my solution I ran a few tests to make sure I had the method correct and there were no issues with latency or anything else.
And yes I should have been more vigilant when initially putting everything together.

PLEASE NOTE
all references to zram.service should be zramswap.service

Maybe as the Z axis, negative end is actually, when extended, and I my head I'm calling that max-z, in fact that end is really min-z, so it is connected?

That would work if network manager was the method used to manage the interfaces and network-manager-gnome was installed. But that's not the way the images are built.
And honestly if you don't setup a firewall as well.....

Not really.
I started the whole config with mesact, then as the switches are 5volt, needed to use encoder channels, the index is inverted so have to not the signals, and then moved to pncconf. Lastly from one of the notes above copied what I thought was required homing code.
So the hoops, are just a mess I've got myself into.
If nothing is tied to max-z then even more mystified how its possible to home on it.
I guess that proves those three lines of code are superfluous.

Beckhoff KL4032 VFD Spindle speed control

Category: EtherCAT

Hi all! I am at the stage of procuring the required Ethercat modules to implement my CNC Router control topology and I am currently stuck on VFD speed control signal output. Is it possible to configure the HAL to use one of the analog ports on the Berkhoff 4032 Analog Output module to sent the speed signal defined in the front-end to the VFD, as in a conventional breakout board setup?

Best!

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

What PWM problem?

When PWM enable is true, the analog output voltage will match the PWM value number.

_but_ if you get a fault (as it looks like in your first data dump), LinuxCNC will go into the
machine-off state and disable PWM enable so no analog output is possible

Can you re-do the halcmd show all > all.txt with linuxCNC running in the machine on state
(if running axis, this means the power button is depressed = shows shadow border)

Nothing is tied to max-z, everything is tied to min-z, so the only active pin is min-z input, and from your description even that is not set properly as you are getting joint 2 following error form the motor bottoming out.
Can you explain again why such hoops for home and limits on Z?
