Program exceeds machine maximum X and Y Axis

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I just had this problem where it says Program exceeds machine maximum X and Y Axis. I cannot figure out why it is saying this i’ve had the CNC PLASMA CUTTER (5x10) for about a month and never encountered a problem like this. I have a few pictures! If someone can help please let me know, thanks!!

New ethercat / probe basic control for minimonster

Category: CNC Machines

Decided this should be its own thread to not get all buried in the main one.

Trading for some ethercat servos this week so I'm going to make a whole separate new control for testing.

Drives are omron RD88 400w and 200w models. 20 bit incremental encoders.

They do seem to have at least a couple IO on each one, but I think I definitely need more IO. I did have an EK1100 somewhere, but I cant find it and it would cost a few hundred to get the IO modules, especially spindle analogue.

Does anyone have a link to a low cost IO module that works well with linuxcnc? I've seen a few floating around, but I have no idea if any of them "just work".

Remap M6 Prolog & Epilog question

Category: Advanced Configuration

Create a subfolder in your config folder named 'python.'

Put remap.py, stdglue.py, and toplevel.py in the new 'python' folder.

An example can be found here:
github.com/LinuxCNC/linuxcnc/tree/master...ython-stdglue/python

The change_prolog & epilog stuff are contained within the stdglue.py file.  What the "REMAP=" statement in the INI file is doing is telling LCNC:
  • When LCNC sees and "M6"
    • Look at toplevel.py and import (use) everything in remap.py
    • Look at remap.py (import stdglue.py)
Look at stdglue.py and substitute all the "change_prolog"  and "change_epilog" sections for LCNC's built-in behavior

And the ngc=Tool_change_sub section is telling LCNC to substitute that file (i.e. do whatever is in the file) for LCNC's built-in behavior.

EDIT-

Forgot to add... you also need a [PYTHON] section in your INI file if you don't already have one.  That 'TOPLEVEL=' part tells LCNC where to start looking for everything.

[PYTHON]
PATH_PREPEND = python
TOPLEVEL = /your config folder name here/python/toplevel.py
PATH_APPEND = /your config folder name here/python/

Remap M6 Prolog & Epilog question

Category: Advanced Configuration

I am attempting to setup a standard carousel style atc.

In my INI my RS274NGC is as follows:

[RS274NGC]
PARAMETER_FILE = parameters.var
SUBROUTINE_PATH = /home/sabre/linuxcnc/configs/sabre_500_mesa_7i97t/subroutines/
REMAP= M6 modalgroup=6 prolog=change_prolog ngc=Tool_change_sub epilog=change_epilog

Does this mean that I need a file named change_prolog.py and change_epilog.py saved in the subroutines path? (I see the change_prolog & change_epilog sections in the stdglue.py)

Currently I have stdglue.py and tool_change_sub.ngc in the subroutine path and I get pycall(remap.change_prolog)failed on a tool change.

I have been reading the Remap Extending G-Code, and I don't see where or how I should save the prolog and epilog.

Stuck with spindle interface 7i76 card and weird BLDC driver

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

The outputs on TB3 pin 4 and 5 should be used individually,
 that is, you would use the appropriate output and
GND (TB3 pin 1) NOT both outputs to create a 5V signal
Which output you chose depends on the direction polarity.

On later bitfiles I have changed from PWMDIR to GPIO
on some configurations because it is more flexible
(many systems do not use the DIR pin and it is unavailable
as a general purpose output in these cases)

And yes, GPIO8 can be used for any type of output.

Yikes.

Nice feller.

I get annoyed sometimes here with the "presumed prior knowledge" crowd, but that is not how you deal with that.

Installing NoMachine Remote Desktop - Package installer issues

Category: Computers and Hardware

Hi Friends,
This might not be the best place for this but I've already posted on their forum and was suggested i try here.
forum.nomachine.com/topic/cant-find-appl...fter-package-install

because sometimes its easier to work on my central machine and not walk back and forth to the machine while trying to make tweaks and changes I have found NoMachine. From what i've read it seems to be a windows to linux remote desktop tool and seems to work based on what i've read.

The issue i am having; after the .deb file downloads and i double click to open it with the package installer i click install package and then nothing happens. No file, no application, nothing to be found. I have been trying to command line install it to no avail. Any idea if the Debian that linux cnc runs is different in a way that could effect the install of this type of software?

Modbus input for absolute encoder position?

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I have a servo motor with an absolute encoder that can send and receive data via RS485 RTU. I was also able to receive the encoder data using mb2hal. The encoder data includes the pulse count and the number of turns. The pulse count changes between 0 and 65535 per turn. The number of turns counts up from zero for positive numbers and decreases by one from 65536 for negative numbers. Now, my question is, first, how can I convert this value in HAL to an angle and then to a length, and second, how can I use this value for homing?

So tell us what you really think tommylight.

I really think Tommy wants to pick a fight with whole of the western world!

Nah, this was just to prove that this forum is very polite, even in such extreme cases when someone blabbers nonsense, like me here.
Last week we had two members complaining about exactly that, blaming the forum members for replies they got, while questions mostly did not warrant a reply at all, but still they got polite replies and maximum effort in helping them.
I vividly recall a few years back someone calling us here "morons" and still he got polite replies ... and got fired from his job, as he got a job he had no basic knowledge of, then came here hoping we can magically save him.
I can not find that one, but i did find the other one using the same language:

forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-q...r-not-working#140335

So to reiterate:
This is the best forum in the world!!! :)
