Remora - ethernet NVEM / EC300 / EC500 cnc board

Category: Computers and Hardware

@cakeslob
I tried that but it's failing. Jogging one direction, continoous in axis gui.

jog speed in ui 2423mm/min ~= 40/sec
MAX_VELOCITY = 40 > 50
MAX_ACCELERATION = 200 > 50

Result is following joint error after 3 or 4 seconds.

When velocity is 40 it still fail sometimes, when it's 39 it works.
I have 5000 microsteps per rotation. One rotation is 5mm movement. So 1mm is 1000 steps. With 40mm/s max velocity it gives 40000 steps/second.
It's interesting because it's around 40khz and it fails.
Maybe I'm not running in DMA mode at all? But why would it work with the config for DMA?

Mesa 7i95T spindle step/Direction setup using stepgen

Category: Driver Boards

Hi All,

As the title suggests i have the Mesa 7i95T, I am wanting to use a AC servo as a spindle motor.

I am on version 2.9.2
I have the servo wired up correctly, i have validated this by plugging it into the Z axis socked and i get movement. The problem is that non of the configuration tools supports stepgen for the spindle only PWM, I have tried all the tricks i can find online to get this to work, like setting up for a different card then copy and pasting to my config but nothing works. no movement of the spindle.

I have attached my HAL and ini files if someone could kindly have a look.

See bottom here (not much more info than what I already provided above):
linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/motion/kinematics.html

I'm not saying that the docs you linked are incorrect but I have never tried to create a custom kinematic that way. There might be reasons to go that route depending on what includes you need.

Maybe you could provide a bit more information on what you are trying to do?

thank you again @phillc54,
your first post led me to realisation, i was running master branch, and not v2.9.3..
at this point, I did:
-make clean
-deleted whole folder linuxcnc-dev
-git clone
-git checkout tags/v2.9.3
and rest was just RIP install

Changed to AxisGUI (as I don't know how to set up Probe_Basic) and commented out the POSTGUI_HALFILE (as I got start up errors about missing hal pins) then tested in current master on a non-rt RIP installation. Seems to work fine for me.

connecting to laser TTL

Category: Plasma & Laser

Well, I know what TTL & PWM means. The problem is, that TTL (in this context) only means 5V while PWM is just pulses with no indication to voltage or frequency.

The manual of the Atomstack M100 just says 5V TTL. I googled, but did not find any good indication if they meant 5V analog or PWM. Usually (YMMV) more devices work with analog than PWM, so I went that road.

If, from your experience, TTL in this context means PWM, I'll happily take that advice. If you remember, you explained to me yesterday how to flash the second PWM output. So this has already been done.

I'll look up in the manual how that needs to be wired and post it here.

I am following the directions of the documentation. If it was mentioned then I would follow your route.

linuxcnc.org/docs/stable/html/motion/switchkins.html

Is there documentation elsewhere that will be a bit more correct?

Stepper based machine some general questions

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

1. Do I need to wire up the enable inputs on the stepper drivers?

1.1. The 7i76 does not have an "enable Pin" on the step generator. So I then need to hook up enable to any normal I/O?

2. I noticed that I can get a higher top speed when I reduce the accelleration and at lower top speed I can put in higher accelleraton values.
For a small bench top mill should I rather focus on acceleration with lower top speed?

3. Is it possible to generate a 4th axis in PNC config? I did not find it yet. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction. Do I have to add this manually to the HAL file?

1. No, it will do just fine without, if you do not plan to move it manually
1.1. Yes
2. Don't, just don't! Set the machine up, make it work with very low values, then you can decide what is better for you after you get some experience.
3. Yes, on the third page choose XYZA

using the switchkins example ini settings and sub files. my config is an experimental setup in a work in progress branch in probe basic for multi axis simulation. not sure you would want to dissect through that to hunt down the issue, but here is the github link to the branch if you do!

Most i do not mind at all, to much information so they are not sure what is important and what not...
But, rarely, in comes the "Smartest human that ever existed" trying to play smart by omitting info at all cost convinced they discovered hot water ... so i press F8 :)
I blame the bloody internet/youtube/anti-social-whatever and normal media/TV/Radio with all the modern sh#t of "inventions" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing has been invented since Tesla with radio waves and induction motors, so move the f@k on.
Everything else is/are incremental improvements on already existing stuff or new ways of using old stuff.

And do not get me started on "Theoretical Scientists", they do not think they are the smartest living beings, they are CONVINCED that they are! With years i have gathered so much intolerance for them that it is very hard to put on words...

I also blame us, we the normal guys who spent our lives learning and working, for keeping quiet, i know i did till a few years back.
We need to do more on these "social ####" , but we are busy actually doing something.
I have to stop...

Nice find and to damn cheap, you lucky b.... :)
Good luck with the retrofit, there are several similar machine logs here in case you did not see them, but i think all use Mesa controllers with normal servo drives, normal as in not EtherCAT. Some use the old existing drives, IIRC
